My very very long story.

My Story.

I have wanted a breast augmentation as long as I can remember. So going on about 12 years, and I finally decided that it was my time to go through with it. I have my wedding coming up in October and my perfect dress kept falling off since I had nothing to hold it up. I was getting depressed about how much “stuffing” the alteration ladies were going to have to add to make me look like a woman on “my special day” and I sat down with tears in my eyes to talk with my fiancé about it. He was all for the surgery and told me that he loved me exactly how I was but if surgery would make me feel better about myself he would support me whole heartedly. So we did some financial digging and he came up with half of the cost and I came up with the other half, which meant the world to me seeing that he had recently left his very well paying job to do some clinical work at a local hospital so that he could get into a new medical masters program and the new job paid less than half of what he had currently been making, needless to say money has been tight and his willing to stretch things even tighter to make my dreams come true.

We had both gone together six weeks or so ago to meet with a PS, and at first we were taken back by the fact that he had not been “board certified” for Plastic Surgery and as much as I read into every thing, going with an un certified surgeon was a super no no. But as we talked with him and saw his before and after photos and learned more and more about his experience we learned that he was a recent medical graduate that spent the last ten years learning everything he could about plastic surgery. He had graduated with honors from Michigan State, then followed up with his masters at Wake Forest with a major in Plastic surgery then did 3 years of residency at a very accredited plastic surgeons office in New York City then an additional 2 years in specialized breast augmentation recovery/repairs and then came back to North Carolina to start his family. Only working in the “field” professionally (not under a residency/freelance umbrella) for three years he was a candidate for certification but since he had not put in five years he was not yet able to apply for certification but he had been attending the continuing education classes with the doctor he currently works under.

The six weeks seemed to drag by at the time but all of a sudden my surgery was upon me. The night before I was given permission to take a valium to help me sleep and kissed my fiancé good night as he left to work third shift at the hospital.

Wednesday
I woke up the next morning thirsty, nervous, excited and hungry. (I am a coffee girl and have a hard day starting with out my starbucks) My appointment wasn’t until 10:30am and I was luckily able to sleep until 10am that morning. I woke up and put on a clean pair of jammie pants, a zip up hoodie, my glasses, a pair of flip flops and hopped in the car. The ride there was pretty quiet as we were both nervous and excited about the rest of the days upcoming events. Once arriving at the office I began to feel silly (sitting in my jammies, sans make up). As in previous times the office waiting area had been patient free, this morning the waiting area had about 10 people waiting, I suddenly had a giggle fit, not sure if it was my nervousness or what but most of the folks in the waiting area were 65 or older and although plastic surgery can be done on anyone I guess I got it in my mind that they were all there for breast augmentations and the idea seemed all and all very funny to me. My fiancé just held my hand and tried to get me to stop giggling as I curled up in the large leather chair in the waiting area. Shortly after arrival I was called back by the CNA I had previously met with and she asked me numerous times if I had to use the rest room and all though I didn’t have to, I kept having the urge to do so, nervousness I guess. Eventually they had me enter the “waiting OR” area and I stripped down to my boy short panties (which are great on surgery day since my PS made me take of my jammie pants and I didn't feel like I was hanging all out, as I would had I worn say a thong) and the lovely gown, but this time I was able to put it on the correct way and just had my fanny hanging out. The nurse anesthetist came in and went over my medical history with me once again and she was a very very nice lady and started the IV on the first shot and then taped down the iv and asked me to lay back and relax as she started a saline drip. Shortly after the doctor came in and asked me to remove my gown and said he was going to do some drawings, I laughed and said I had already done some of my own (joke) but I am sure his would be much better, he then laughed and was pleased that I was in good spirits. He went over sizes with me one last time and showed me that he had printed out the photos I had brought him from my second consult to use as a “starting point” and patted my hand and said “Large C’s small D’s, no stripper boobies right?” and I smiled and I said “correct” as the nurses looked at him in shock.

I woke up very groggy and the anesthetist was standing by my side asking if I was okay and I asked her to get the bolder off my chest, and she patted my hand and asked if she could get me anything and I told her I just wanted my fiancé and she went off to get him. I was very groggy (no nausua at any point) and I remember her asking if I wanted soda or anything and I looked up at my fiancé and thought I was giving him one of those “you tell her what I want” faces and he just smiled and said that I needed to speak, and I told the nurse “I don’t drink soda and I think it is too early for a beer” again more ripples of laughter through out the room and she brought me some water to drink. It took about an hour and a half for me for my head to clear up, all the time I tried to pull myself up because I felt like I was slipping down the bed and they finally agreed that if I was comfortable enough to pull myself up I was ready to be loaded into the car to be taken home. The PS came in one last time to check on me and go over care details with my fiancé, which I can’t seem to recall and he asked how I was feeling, and I told him I was feeling like a “fem bot from Austin Powers and he better watch out because these torpedo tits were loaded and ready to go off” more giggling.

I don’t remember much from the ride home just laid back and asked that my fiancé open the sunroof so I could “look at the pretty day” and back to sleep for me.

Thursday
I woke up pretty much pain free and my fiancé handed me some oatmeal and my meds which I took and passed back out. The day pretty much went that way, he would wake me up, offer me some food, hand me my meds and out I would go. I don’t really remember being in any pain just very tired. I have a day bed couch which I slept on for the day and it was great, I also had a table that was shoulder height (when laying down) and it had soup, water, pills and the remotes on. I woke up around 5pm and actually got dressed, took my meds and went to school to take a lab test. I told my teacher earlier in the week I was having surgery and since the test was one in lab she wasn’t sure when she could reschedule and told me I could either come Thursday night or Friday morning and since I felt great (valium and codeine will do that to you) I went ahead and got it over with and left right after the test. She said she would grade easier on me since “I wasn’t all there” and then I came home and passed back out.

Friday
My Birthday!! Some of my friends came over to check up on me sang me happy birthday and bring me flowers, cake and balloons. Again not a lot of pain, I actually got up and went out to dinner with some of my friends, and came home and passed out again.

Saturday
I was stir crazy! I got dressed took my meds and went to the mall and did some shopping for about 45 minutes and headed back home to sleep some more. I went to VS to try and find a wireless bra, and let me tell you what a mission that is. They have this very comfy foam type bra and it felt and worked great but I was inbetween sizes, I originally tried on a 34C, too small in the cup, then a 34D and the band seemed like it was shifting up, then they brought a 34DD and at that point I stopped and decided to wait until the swelling went down before I sunk $50+ on a new bra, I did end up getting a cami/bra deal that was 40% off that has been working great, I got the wrong size though and had to go back Sunday and trade it in for a 36D. I had been wearing a sports bra 34C and I discovered that was what was causing me the most pain, having it squish the girls to my chest, so I went sans bra when I was home.

Would I go through the surgery again? YES a million times over. My friends and family have been very supportive of the surgery. My father sent me a $50 gift card for VS for my birthday and several flower deliveries have been made to the house and my office which has been really sweet.

But I am in love with the new additions it has been so much fun to dress them up and just seeing how they look in clothes. It amuses me that they catch me off guard every once in a while, the first two days I just looked down at them, afraid to see any bruising, and on the third day I checked them out in the mirror and I couldn’t get over how big they are. . . well I have gone off to rambling now. Still a little here and there, no pain pills yet for me today so that could have something to do with it, not in any pain. Also I was able to pretty much get down to two pain pills a day after the third day.

Good luck and if you are on the fence about getting the surgery, don’t be.

You and your 'torpedo tits' have a fantastic sense of humor! I love this line: "I guess I got it in my mind that they were all there for breast augmentations and the idea seemed all and all very funny to me" I can sooooo relate to this sort of thinking. We need to go dancing sometime! hahahaha!

I am so happy for you and the new girls!!! Congrats and Happy Birthday. I love your sense of humor and one liners! I was afraid that after anesthetic I may be a little to over the top (I can be like that after heavy sedation or anesthetics), but I figured they've heard it all so...come what may.
Have fun with your next wedding dress fitting!!!!! Take Care, Bev

thank you all for the well wishes and happy birthdays, you guys are so great. I did find out today that my soon to be mother in law came over the night of my surgery and came in the room and kissed me on the forehead, apparently I gave her a big grin and told her "feel them mom, they are like rocks" I laughed so hard at that comment from her. I apologized and she just said she wouldn't have expected anything less from me.

Wedding is 10/26/07 and I can't wait to try the dress on again. Oh and as a thank you treat for my wonderful fiance I came home from work tonight, kicked him out of bed (his night off from third shift) handed him some money and told him to go play with the boys which I had called earlier in the day to have them meet him at one of our favorite bars since he has been so great. Never thought I would see him skip out of the house so quickly.
