Can I use ice packs? Help with swelling?

I had my BA 3 days ago and the swelling is out of contral. The skin in between my breasts are so raised and major swelling on the sides. Anything I can do to spead up the process I'm tired of feeling like crap!!!

Use ice packs constantyl! My PS swears by that and so do I now. I went home in nothing but a mound of ice packs around my breast...my swelling went down SO fast! Feel better hun!

Yes, definitely! I used bags of frozen blueberries bc, as I read somewhere on this forum last month, frozen peas stink when they thaw. Ice packs ok too! Feel better

No, not unless YOUR PS told you to...
I was told NOT to use them as were other women on here. It is all up to YOUR PS.
I would call and ask YOUR PS or someone on his staff.

Remember we all have different after care instructions because none of us had the exact same surgery on the exact same body...

My favourite thing to say is that we are all like snowflakes, different and individuals.

3 months PO - went back to Nordstroms and was sized a 34DDD

I let the PS decide during the surgery what will be best for my body! So happy he put in 550cc silicone under muscle

I was told that ice packs were fine, and today, made two of them out of ziplock bags, ice, and cold water. I kept alternating them on my breasts and face for half an hour; it certainly seemed to help.

I would be thrilled to get the swelling down asap....

My PS did not want me using ice packs. Cold constricts the blood vessels thus is you keep them on too long you could be doing more bad than good. It all depends on what your PS believes. Cold to any injury should only be applied for 15-20 minutes at a time and in intervals. I am using Arnica and Bromelain.

Like others have said, I was told NO ice and No heat. If I were you, I would call your PS. I was told that I would continue to swell for the first ten days and then it would slowly subside. They were right. Your fine. Swelling is normal. If you notice any new discoloration such as a red bruise call your PS. I actually had a yellow bruise between my breasts and had bruising on my sides under my armpits.

Absolutely! I went out this afternoon and my breasts began swelling a lot so as soon as I got home, I pulled out my bag of frozen peas!

I'm three days post op and so much swelling I can't even put my arms down straight. I've used icepacks 3 times...usually hurts though...it's like these mounds are on my shoulders..not breasts...these move down right? Any suggestions appreciated...i have to go back to work on Wed and today is Sunday...had surgery Friday...my wonderful boyfriend still had to wash my hair!!! Help! Is this normal?

My PS also said no ice or hot packs, they think it slows down the healing process. I was surprised by this too since I read about a lot of girls recommending icing. I haven't done ice though and I feel pretty good.

I used Ice Packs they definitely helped, but my PS told me it was okay. You may was to check with your PS first-but they help a lot.

I'm a nursing student and the first thing you learn for an injury is R.I.C.E, rest, ice, compress, elevate! so the no ice rule for some PS makes no sense to me!

IMO, Icing swollen injuries is common knowledge to most people but you shouldn't ice for more than 20 mins or so & wait 40 mins then ice again.
