How soon after to use scar gel?

I started using scar gel a month and a half post op. Is that ok?
They've started to buldge more and feel like there are stitches inside. Is that normal or is that from the scar gel?

I agree with diamond girl...I had a benelli lift in january and took it upon myself to apply mederma gel...i didnt even think to ask my PS for permission...Anyway, it was a HUGE mistake i made...I used it for a week, then developed a rash on both boobs that radiated to the whole boob....it was a hot mess...i had to be on benedryl for 4 days...crazy...anyway, my PS said, scar gels in reality do crappola...they are gimmicks and expensive...in the end, they dont look any different then if u leave it alone...he said if there was a magical potion to make them go away, we would all know about it...if you do use them, your scars should be old...like 2 years +...or else they seep into beneath the surface and could aggrivate everything...here i am 4 months later and my scars arent bad at all.

so interesting how many mixed reviews there are about using an ointment such as neosporin on incisions and using scar creams to prevent the appearance of scars...

my PS recommended that I use neosporin in thin layers of the incision with gauze and then 2 week post-op, I would be able to use mederma cream...

so interesting how many different PS have different views on this...

in my opinion and from what i've seen on my own personal scars, If i've left it alone to heal on it's own, the scar is more prominent while others if I care for it and keep it moist with neosporin or mederma cream...the scars are a lot more subtle and flat.

It entirely depends on your PS advice. Many surgeons advice nothing as although the scar is closed the tissue underneath goes on healing for up to 18mths and is therefore sensitive to anything that is rubbed into it and oil in particular can weaken the tissue and make the scar worse. This doesn't happen in all cases but it does happen.Quite often in the UK the norm is not to use anything up to around a year and then if the scar is still visible so that it affects you use something then. The good news is if you use an effective scar cream it will have the exact same effect if you used it after a month or after a year so the scar would still fade.I have used nothing,am 5mths po and my scars look great.HTH.
