I haven't had my breast augmentation yet but had a bunch of other cuts/burns that would leave scars. I have used mederma in the past on my forearm 2nd degree burn and it worked beautifully. The only hassle is to apply it multiple times a day. I used it for good 2-3 months and have no scar at all. The skin is a little hyperpigmented but I used a cream to lighten in and you can't tell unless I go tanning. About 7 months ago I had burned my left hand (another 2nd degree) and have been using Vit. E oil on it for a few weeks. Again, no scar left. The skin was a little pink for a while but now faded in and noone can tell! You can actually buy vit. E oil - I think Nature's Resourse makes it (I bought a bottle at CVS) - it will last a long time since you only use a little bit each time. For my breast augmentation scars my PS recommends ScarGuard. I guess I'll do that and then switch to Vit. E oil afterwards. |

I haven't had my breast augmentation yet but I do have a nasty pink scar on my finger from a burn. I have used Mederma for about a week so far and it has lighten, and flattened, a TON! It was so pink that I use to wear a bandaid because it looked nasty, but now It is alright without it. I bring the Mederma with me everywhere and rub it in several times a day, and put it on at night with a bandaid. So, I will use this on my crease scars for sure. I also used mederma on a scar I have on my eyebrow, that happened 15 years ago, and it lightened as well. HTH! |

![]() | Bio-Oil
I've been using Vit-E for 3 weeks and really don't see any change in my incisions...they are still really red. PS says they are healing nicely, but I'd like to speed it up a little. For those of you who have had success with Bio-Oil can you tell me what it is? It's not the same as Vit-E oil, right? Also, what brand did you have luck with? Thanks |

I was not told to use anything. I am 3 weeks po and my ps only has me wearing the (brown) tape on my incisions. Is using a cream or ointment something that you do right away or after the tape comes off?

I posted before that my PS recommended ScarGuard (and he really does) but when I went to my post-op I asked the nurse about the silicone sheets and she said they're excellent as well. She said they use them all the time on tummy tuck scars (cuz they're so long) so I decided to do that instead the of the ScarGuard. It seems like less of a hassle. Just slap it on and you're all set for the whole day. BTW, you can get them on Ebay for much cheaper then in any online store. |

On the bottle I have, the name 'Bio-Oil" is the registered trade mark, so I'm assuming that is the only brand under that name for now. It also says that PurCellin Oil is the breakthrough ingredient. The website listed is: www.bio-oil.com if you need more info.As soon as my steri strips were removed I used the Neosporin scar strips but didn't notice them doing anything and switched to the Bio-Oil. Right now I have flat white lines that are barely noticable. I also use the Bio-Oil on a burn scar and it's fading out very well. | |

![]() ![]() | Scar Gel
I started out using Vitamin E then switched a week or so ago to Scar Gel from dermae. Says it will help diminish old scars also, so we'll see. I bought it in the natural health section at the grocery store. http://www.dermae.net/cgi-bin/fccgi....n%20treatments I have also used some of their skin care products and love them.

I use Mederma. I've never used it before but it's working great. It's making my scars less and less visible. I wish I knew about it when I had my appendix taken out. That scar might have been smaller too. Great stuff, that Mederma. |

Well, at my 6 week check up yesterday, Dr. Borsand recommended I use the silicone scar sheets. He said the gel I'm using may not help. So I went today and bought some at CVS, their brand called Scar Treatment, Silicone Scar Sheets.

when exactly is is safe to start using treatments for the scars? i know its pretty different for each person. im still wearing the tape over my crease incision at this time, and am just getting prepared for when they fall off and i can begin the scar treatment. does any one recommend removing the tape since its been about 12 days post op? or should i literally wait til they fall off...? thanks!!! |

I used Scarguard for 2 months. The one thing I didn't like was that it started to flake/peel off very quickly and I got tired off reapplying it. I just bought Dr. Blaine's Silicone Scar Sheets from CVS, which is $20 for 3 months. I went through $30 Scarguard in about 1 month I think. I can't even feel the sheets on me so, so far I like it better.

I used Hypafix for about 10 weeks, then moved onto Bio Oil ... which I applied 3 times a day (sometimes more). My scars are now extremely faint and almost non-existant.

Well, I haven't gotten mine done yet, it's tomorrow. But I work in a health food store and I'm going to school for nutrition and so I've done alot of research on this. I'm going to do Aloe Vera mixed with a couple drops of lavender 3-6 times a day for a couple weeks at least. (make sure it's after they've closed up!) And I'm also going to try to do vitamin E as much as I can also. The important thing is to keep it hydrated while the scar is healing, but make sure you're using things that will help the scar heal in a good way so it will fade. And then after a while I'm going to put Aloe with a little lemon juice mixed in to fade any color. ....well...that's my plan! I'm feeling a little manic right now, since my breast augmentation is tomorrow! |
