Unhappy No energy after BA...is this normal?

I am 5 days post op. my boobs are still sore but nothing I can't handle. The thing that is bothering me the most is that I feel so tired and week. I get exhausted just walking across my house. Is this normal? I new my chest would be sore for awhile but I wasnt expecting to feel so drained for such a long time. my husband goes back to work tomorrow and I am worried that I wont be able to take care of my kids. Anyone else have this problem?

Are you still taking your pain meds/muscle relaxers? Those can definitely have an affect on your energy. It might be better to switch to a lighter medication like tylenol for any further discomfort.

As for me, my 5th day post OP was the worse. Days 1-4 I think I was ahead of schedule, up and about and feeling mostly good. But on day 5, for some reason I felt really bad. It probably had to do a little bit with me also getting my period, and having to go back to work, but it was a rough day for me physically and then emotionally. Hang in there, it only gets better from here. I don't have any kids myself so can't comment there, but I hope you start to feel better. Congrats on the BA!

I am only taking tylenol for pain. But for some reason today has been the worst day so far. I am just emotionally and physically exhausted. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Thanks for the input.

Definitely very normal. Honestly it took me a few weeks before I had all my energy back. You had major surgery and your body is diverting all your energy to healing...that and trying to cycle all the meds out of your system. Take it easy and give yourself lots of room to recover. You'll get there!

It took me almost 2 weeks before I no longer felt drained and my energy level picked back up. Hope you start feeling better soon!

Hang in there! That's the part that really bothered me too! I actually developed anxiety over it at that time thinking it would never go away! It took about 3 weeks for me to really start feeling normal. The pain meds really make you tired and the anesthesia takes awhile to get out of your system. You just had major surgery so it will take some time. You'll get there!

I think we all have one day that is the worst. Then it gradually gets better and better. Hopefully, today was that day for you and now you'll start feeling better day by day. Get as much rest as you can, but try and keep moving, also, as much as possible. Take some short, easy walks outside. Get your blood flowing - there's research that shows people recover more quickly from surgery and illness if they are active.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Immediately after my BA I wanted to go shopping but we had dinner plans with friends so I couldn't. So the next few days straight I was out and about buying tons of clothes. I am 11 days post op and feel normal, my breasts and nipples are a little sore but I am shocked at how well I am doing. I was really concerned since I am so active. I have not slowed down and maybe thats a bad thing........... but I feel so good! Everyone is different and it all may depend on the medication. Some women have a real difficult time of it and others get lucky. I hope you come around quickly. If you are not getting adequate sleep that can definitely suck the life out of you as well. I really don't know what to suggest other than rest when you need to and eat balanced meals with lots of protein. Maybe a friend can come over and help you while your husband is at work. Take care and before you know it you will be back to your old self...........with new lovely breasts!

I am feeling better today. Hopefully yesterday was the worst of it and it will be uphill from now on. Thank you for all of your support. You are a wonderful group of women.

My energy was low for three weeks but came back gradually. I was so upset over the weakness because I am normally so active and hated to sit around for that long. Just try and be patient- it was major surgery! Take is as easy as possible and let your body heal- I promise your energy will make its way back soon.
