![]() | I was wondering about medications you have to take after surgery.. I know different people take different things, but does any of the pain medication make you loopy and "not there"? Or does it just make pain minimal? I've never had to take anything like that, and on top of that I have no idea what meds I will be given, so that's why I ask. I don't wanna be zombie-like or anything. Oh, if I may ask, what were you girls prescribed? How did it make you feel? I'm worried I'm gonna get braindead and forget to take my meds LOLThank you, ladies, for being so helpful! |

hydrocodone. I think you are worrying too much. Don't skip or avoid your pain medication. I had a super recovery with barely any pain but one day decided that since I had no pain I better withdraw from the painkillers- bad idea! I was in PAIIN! You will be sleep, in a happy mood, get a headache- these were my side effects ooh and a bit out of it.. but who cares.. it is just a week or less. 4 days really so take it easy and relax. Plus, you won't be THAT braindead to forget your meds. Good luck I'm excited for you. You are making a right choice. I know I did |

I got vicodin. It doesn't have me loopy. But like realbabe said, stay up on your meds and you'll be ok. Good Luck to you .

The pain meds affect everyone differently. I was prescribed Vicodin. For me it took the edge off the first night/2nd morning but after that I think my pain went down so it made it go away completely. It unfortunately didn't knock me out, but my friend who takes it will sleep like a baby. The best advice I have is only take them if you really need them. I'm sure you will need them the first 2, maybe even 3 days, but after that maybe not. I took mine a day longer than I should have and I got really sick. My mom ended up taking me to the surgeon so he could check my chest and then give me an IV.

I had 3 choices of meds: regular tylenol, tylenol 3s, and percocet. The T3s worked great the day after my breast augmentation, but the caffeine in them kept me awake, so I took a percocet before bed.... and that was BAD. Percocet f***ed me up really good - I slept well that night, but the next day I was dizzy, nauseous, and just blah... I slept for 18 hours in a day! Anyways, I couldn't bear the nausea anymore so I stopped taking my pain meds on day 2. So far, pain is not bad at all (I'm on day 3). |

I was also prescribed percoset. They made me very nauseous. The PS also gave me anti-nausea meds...suppositories. I don't know how he thought I was supposed to use them, I could barely wipe my own bottom, much less put one of those in! Anyway, I ended up using extra strength tylenol by day 3. It wasn't that bad. Good luck! ')

My PS has perscribed Darvocet and Demerol as well as anti-nausea meds....I don't have all my information in front of me - one of these is stonger than the other and should be taken for the first couple of days after surgery with the anti-nausea, the other has one refil and is for when I need it......we'll see how it goes in a few weeks!

Demerol for PRN (?) pain and Darvocet (Propoxyphene napslate and acetaminophen) for mild post op pain, Phenergan for anti-nasuea not sure what PRN stands for - but they told me to bring the Demerol and Phenergan with me to surgery cause I would need it! I am super excited about surger - just want it to be over before I overthink it and drive myself crazy!! |

I was prescribed percocet, valium, and suppositories. The percocet took care of the pain, but totally messed up my stomach. The suppositories helped, but like other girls--they are not the easiest thing to put in when your arms hurt to move . By day 2 I chose to stop taking percocet and valium. I have been taking extra strenght tylenol since early this morning and I am doing okay. Frozen peas are helping a lot. I do plan to take a valium to help me sleep soundly. Good luck with your pain med regiment. I agree that you should NOT get behind on your pain. Until you know what level of pain you are going to be in, don't try without. Your body cannot heal while in pain.

I took norco for the pain, which made me knock out and sleep for like 3 hours. I also took zofran for naseua. I stopped taking them on day 4 and switched to ES tylenol. Norco didnt make me loopy, it just made me sleepy LOL |

I was also concerned about meds, as my body is sensitive to drugs.. I can't take heavy doses of ibuprofen.. no codeine , or Demerol for me..== sick sick sick.. So my clinic gave me a nice combination for wake up after anesthetics of 3 anti -nausea drugs.. For pain I take 1 tramecet every four hours.. and also antibiotics ( which normally make me sick but these ones seem to be staying down ok) Because I have the drain tube stitched in I had to get a refill on the tramecet...I dont know if I would have been off the pain meds by now, as I am feeling so much better |
