![]() | Can you get an infection 1 month out?
Can you get an infection a month after surgery? I just took a shower but noticed before getting in the shower there is some redness by the incision (the part that connects to the incision going down). I had a "lollipop" lift. It's about the size of a dime (little less maybe) and a little sore to the touch. Could be sore just b/c it's by the incision and it's still healing though. Right now I am going bra less to see if things change a little bit within an hour. Can you get an infection a month after surgery? And over night like that? I am wondering if it's from that or maybe from slightly dropping and my body is trying to heal and drop? It is the left one, which is still dropping (or in the process). Should I wait it out a few hours? A day? Before calling the doctor. I am sure he'll see me right away once I call but don't want to make the drive and have him see me for nothing if it's just a little redness from friction and such. He's never had an infection yet, and I am hoping this is just redness from the way I slept. Any thoughts? Thank you. |

until your scars are totally healed, its possible to get an infection any time. just keep an eye on it. but if youre worried, consult your PS, even if its only to put your mind at rest xx |

Of course you should contact your PA and have him look at it. I am familiar with incision infections. I have had one on the same side after two surgeries. The first one I didnt take seriously (well the doctor didnt either, so neither did I), and I didnt wear a bra or keep it covered, and the infection got bad overnight. I had staph and it got pretty bad, almost to the point of having to remove my implant. I would advise you to clean it (alcohol worked for me, peroxide didnt) several times a day, a dab of antibiotic ointment and cover it with gauze and tape for as long as the site is the least bit red. It's better to be safe than sorry. I took extreme care of it the second time. One more important thing is , if it does get worse, your doctor should take a culture of the site, and give you anti-biotics that the infection is not resistant to. So many of the antibiotics don't work anymore. |

Hey girl. I actually just posted something similar about my incisions bugging me. I think we are at the same stage in our process. I have determined that there are knots in my stitches and the knot is getting irritated by the my sports bras. It's red but not infected. My PS's nurse confirmed this. I go see my PS tomorow and will let you know. She said sometimes they have to remove the knot even though they are disolvable stitches. If it's inflammed and the redness starts increasing in size, go see them right away!

Thank you girls! After not wearing a bra for an hour yesterday the color seemed to fade but it is still there today. I showed it to hubby and he said if it's still there in the morning give the doc a call even if it's just to drive down there and be told "all clear". He even washed my bra for me in case it had to do with sweat/heat with friction. I'm a little worried about it just b/c it is still reddish pink there and the same size. Going to take a double look at photos I took 3 days ago and than give the doc a call here in the next 5 mins. P.S. I do not like the post about the knots having to be taken out. I have 2 stitches like that on the same boob we are talking about. I can not imagine the pain with this (if you read my other surgery post. Scares me!)....he's a GREAT doctor and if they have to be taken out I pray he can make this painless for me (like the tubes coming out). ![]() My stomach is seriously in knots right now. Maybe I should have a beer and have hubby take me, eeek!
