![]() | Air Travel- will it hurt?
I am going under the knife next Tuesday at 12pm. My surgeon said there was no medical reason why i couldn't fly home to visit family the next day...but he did mention that I'd be in extreme pain. I am flying home to Florida (2.75 hr. flight) at 4pm on Wednesday (little over 24hrs after surgery). My mom will accompany me on the flight. I'm now starting to wonder if I will even have the energy to get out of bed, much less drive to the airport and board a plane! What's the soonest anyone's flown after surgery, and how did it feel? |

I flew 11 hours total, with a connection 5 days after surgery and I vomitted the who plane ride, it was due to the pain meds and constriction of my chest. You will be sore because you have to sit up and you cannot truly relax but its a short flight. You should be fine.

I'm not flying anywhere, but I am driving/riding 8 hours 4 days after surgery. I'm hoping by that time, I will just be ready to get out of the house. Hope your flight goes well. Good luck!

I cant really help you but am praying that your flight goes well for you. Just try and relax and distract your self with as many things as possible. |

My suggestion would be Lay off the narcotics like percocet or what ever else the PS gave you and try like an anti anxiety med instead like xanax or valium they are less likely to make you vomit and help you just relax and sleep.. Good luck |

I flew 4 days after surgery and it was ok, I was still on meds and slept most of the way. I can't imagine flying the next day though, there is no way I could have. Everyone is different though and you might feel fine. But actual flying isn't gonna hurt anything. Its what you can handle. I also don't advise driving the next day. You should probably be on some meds for one but it also hurts to move your arms. Good luck!!

I'm flying to Nashville and having my surgery on Dec 1st, and flying back 6 days later on the 7th. I am also waiting on hearing from some of you guys who fly before I do. I just hope there's no turbulence!!!
