I have not slept in days!

Ok girls, I need so reassuring words here. I am now a week post-op and I really have not slept in 6 nights. Some during the day but with my 4 year old this is almost impossible. Has this happened to you? I did take myself off of pain meds and have been sticking to either Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen, so I have been in pain a lot of the time. (I did this because of constipation and I do have a history with addiction. It was with alcohol, but I fear it's all the same...) I am starting to regret this due to the affect it has had on my family mostly, and I just have not felt good since my procedure. I don't know if I should go back on the pain pills, or just keep keeping on. What do I do? I am currently sitting here just waiting for my daughter to wake up and I just know she is going to be running wild and I just don't have the energy. Is this the post-op blues? What do I do? Anyone else out there experience this? I don't know how much longer I can do this.

oh I know that feeling!! i have a 4 yr also,, it can be hard, and you will make it and will be grateful soon.
If I was you, <and I do have a history of addiction> I would take your pain meds at night, or ask your PS for something just for sleep or something not so scary to you. i dont know what he gave you but you can ask for something else, if your scared change each night so your not taking the same thing, but you REALLY need your sleep to help you out here, then your days could be better, and if your still worried and dont want to take anything get a friend or family to take her for a few hours your mind and body will feel SO SO much better when you start sleeping

You should definitely go back on the pain meds if u're in pain and can't sleep. If you're in constant pain the body can't relax and the healing is slower... Lack of sleep can make anyone depressed, just be careful of the doses u take and never take more than your doc prescribed. I really hope u'll feel well soon!! Big hug to u!!

Sweety, I think you have combination of things that are causing your problem. You are not taking your pain meds, the reason you are not taking your pain meds (fear if addiction), not sleeping, and stress of caring for a 4-year old. That would cause anyone anxiety and depression. My suggestions, take tylenol PM, and hopefully that will help you get some sleep, and alleviate your fear of addiction. During the day alternate between the tylenol and ibuprofen, and take every two hours. If you have someone that can take your daughter for a few hours today, try to take a nap. I really hope you get some sleep tonight. Please keep us posted. We are here for you!

Yeah, I agree with the others...you need sleep! I know what you mean, I have a 4 yr old too! My mom is flying out for 2 weeks to help me with my kids. I also have a 16 month old who needs to be lifted alot so that is the main reason. My mom is young and super hands-on so I hope that I am able to get some sleep! I can see being in your shoes though...I am a tummy sleeper and I don't know HOW I am going to be able to sleep at night! At least while pregnant, I could sleep on my side. Well, best of luck and get some sleep, tonight, girl!!

Tylenol PM was awesome last night! Excellent recommendation. First night of sleep since surgery 8 days ago. Thank you so much girls. I do feel better and just needto have more patience with this process.

flwrchik, so glad you had a better night sleep finally!
I had a horrible time sleeping the first 5 days and the post op blues, but it does get better each day. It sounds like that Tylenol pm is good stuff - I've gotta try that. Try not to stress so much over your family. You'll be stronger and pain- free soon enough, and you have a whole lifetime to take care of your daughter.
