How much bruising is normal?

Hi there...I am 3 days post-op(-: Yahoo!!! I am actually up and around, driving, shopping, etc...have cut down on the pain meds to only at night so I would think that is a good sign although I am not sure about the bruising. I had nipple incision, silicone implants and my left breast looks great but my right is looking very bruised...I have my follow up on Wednesday but am a little nervous that I might have an infection or if I'm just being overly worried...I have deep purple bruises around the incision site and what looks like a small patch of broken blood vessels on the side...everywhere else the bruising has already started to yellow. Should I be worried??? Thanks so much!!!

Hi there,

I wouldn't worry too much just yet. I had quite a lot of bruising post-op, and like you, it was worse in one breast than in the other (they are like have separate surgeries, after all ) Busing is generally not indicative of infection, so I wouldn't sweat that. Fortunately you are seeing your PS soon, and that should set your mind at ease!

i agree, probably nothing...i am 4 days post op and i have just seen new bruises too...i def had some right after surgery but it seems like these ones are new...across the bottom of my boobs. i think until they are fully healed we're going to get some discoloration as things are adjusting in there...
as long as there's no crazy pain out of nowhere i'm not going to worry

Most of my bruising was almost unnoticed because it quickly turned to yellow (I'm guessing because I had meds for swelling/bruising) but I did and still kind of do have a bruise on the crease of one of my boobs and I had transax incision... At first I though it was marker but shocked that it wasn't... I wouldn't be concerned if I were you bruising is only natural to recovery

I had bruising on my righty for quite a while.. Im 30 days out and I still have a little bit. It was mostly around my incision site (areola) and the crease where he goes under the pec muscle. Wasnt so much sore as it was nasty looking. No bad bruising on lefty but about a week out I got a bruise and some soreness along my inner breast near the cleavage.
I still have some yellowing under my right breast and near the crease. Surprisingly about a week out I had bruising and marks clear down to my waist along my ribs. Looks like they had to hold me down to make the pocket.. goodness!
I saw my PS about two weeks post op and he didnt say anything about it except that it is a tough surgery. I was really worried about it and it is getting better but very slowly. If you get too worried give him a call.. I iced mine too and it didnt seem to help but it probably did with any soreness because as bad as it looked and still does kind of... its not hurting.

I was under the assumption that yellow bruising means something is healing.

As far as I can tell, the yellowing is the final "bruise" stage so that is good...I'm not in any pain but I'm still "tight" and now my righty seems to be talking to me - gurggle, gurggle...LOL(-: I'll let y'all know what my PS says tomorrow and hopefully I'm just being paranoid.

Different people bruise differently. And if you take the supplements before and after surgery had minimal to no visible bruising. I didn't and i was fine! Even though you feel great, do take it easy so early out from surgery. To much activity can create post op bleeding. I don't think your bruising is infection. Good luck and happy healing!

My bruising took almost a month to go away completely. I was out of town and very far away from my PS 1 week after surgery and began to panic when a section of my bruising turned red. I was sure it was infection and after much research learned that if infection had set in, I would be very very ill. If you are not feeling really bad I would not worry about infection. Bruising will heal at it's own rate and that rate will be different on each breast. Try not to analyze too much, it will drive you crazy.

Thumbs up

I thought bruising was normal and i was prepared for lots of bruising but to my surprise I do not have a single bruise. I was told that the more gentle the doctor is the less bruising u will see. So i guess my doctor was gentle. lol but bruising im sure is expected after what just went through. good luck to you

There's no definite answer on bruising I don't think...we all heal in our own way.

Even surgery to surgery I varied greatly. During my expander operation I bruised colors I didn't know existed! Other than that I didn't bruise one bit, go figure.

I'm REALLY BRUISED

Glad to find your post. I'm 4 days post op and noticed bruising the 2nd day and by the 3rd day they were really bad and now the 4th day I'm stressed. But like I've read, since I don't have a fever or any pain or excessive swelling in a particular area I'm just holding out that if its just bruised and the worst I have to deal with so be it. I have my first post op on day 6...in two more days. Yikes. I did call and spoke with Dr. yesterday (day 3) and she said it is normal to be really bruised. My stomach is really swollen but since I am off pain meds for the last 24 hours and started going to bathroom again, I'm hoping that will go down. I heard it can take awhile. Yuk!

I had severe bruising on my left. My PS even had an ultrasound done because I had lots of swelling on that breast too. But everything turned out fine. The implant was sitting high and I just bruised really bad. I have public pics of the bruising If you want to look. I was also very nervous about the bruises. I'm over 4 weeks post op and still have 2 spots that have a little bruising.
