anxious about nipple scars

Hi am due to have Benelli Mastopexy and BA on 17 May 07. I am confused about the scarring issue. I have seen "after" photos that look fantastic and some that really scare me. Can anyone give me an idea of how long it will take for my scars to flatten and heal. I have heard that biodermis nipple rings are good to help scars. Has anyone tried them?

HI LouLou,

I used the scilone scar sheets around my aerola. They are a round disc and have a hole in the middle for the nipple. Is that what you are talking about? I didn't start using them until I was about 5 months post op. My worst scar is under the breast in the crease. I have hypertropic scaring there. It is not the fault of my surgeon, that is just the way I scared this time. I've had surgery before my BA that healed fine abd I've had surgery since and that scar did not hypertropy on me. I was under a lot of stress tho. I only had one week off from a stressful job and My daughter got married about 5-6 weeks after my surgery and I only had 2 days off to get everything together for the wedding. I really think the stress is what caused my scars to be less than what I was hoping for.

HTH good luck with your surgery.

Hi Tony

Thanks for your good wishes. The scar thing is really getting to me at the moment. I have no idea how I am going to heal, but plan to look after myself the best I can do after my op.

I have heard of the Biodermis areola silicone circles, but to get them shipped to Australia is extremely expensive. So I'm just going to buy the silicone sheet and cut my own. I suffer from Keloid scarring very badly and my PS is quite concerned. I'm going in 3 weeks before BA to discuss what we will be doing to best heal and prevent the keloid scarring
