Explant and lift? Anyone?
I have had my implants for about 7 years and I just don't think they suit me, plus I don't like the feel of them. I am thinner now than when I got them, too. I think they look too big and they are heavy when I exercise.
They are slightly saggy, and I went from a 34B to a 34DD - I think the implant size was 425, over the muscle. I am wondering if anyone similar has had theirs removed, and if so did they need a lift, and which lift? I live in Toronto and I really don't know if any surgeions around here are experts. I don't want to get a scarring lift if I don't need one. I don't know of doctors here that do Benelli lifts, either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Hi, I don't have any info to share, but I am also considering having my implants removed within the next year. I am pretty sure I'll get a lift as well. Early in my recovery from BA I had to have my lefty taken out for 4 months due to infection. During that time, my breast tissue filled in and looked almost like pre-BA, but that was after only having the implant in for a few weeks.
I'll be sure to share any info I have as I continue to research my options, and I'll watch in this thread for any info others might add. terrie |

It's really hard to tell if you'll need a lift or not after explant. Your breasts will have some changes to go through when you have the implants removed, just like they did when you had them put in. I would suggest that you do it in two stages, removal and wait a while to see the results and then decide if you will need a lift and to see how much of a lift you need.

Thanks for your replies. Its hard to tell and after 7 years and two kids I'm suspecting I will need a lift. At this point I am just so uncertain if it is worth taking them out, and having a lift which will result in scars. Or do I just keep them and feel like I don't want them?!
Terrie, I'm curious to see how you like your results so please keep me posted! |

Hey Cowgirl,
Thanks for the informative post! I'm so glad your explant and lift has been a positive experience. Would it be rude to ask how much it cost?? I am going to have to wait a while, financially, to have the procedure(s), so I haven't gone in for a consult with my PS yet. Maybe I should just go now anyway...would give me SOME answers and a $$goal$$ to shoot for. |

Tallgirl
I Do Not Mind At All Telling You The Price.. It Was 8,000.00 And Yes I Am Enjoyin Every Min Of It. There Are Days When I Am Still Alittle Sore And My Excersise Is Still Not Permitted Nor Any Heavy Or Hard Work.. Dr Gave Me 8 Weeks And I Should Be On The End Side Of This.. I Do Not Have A Camera My Old One Took A Poo . I Will Send You Pics As Soon As I Get A New One.. You Will Really Be Shocked.. The Scars Are Really So Min.. *take Note* This Is Per My Situtation I Have Seen Some People Who's Scars Did Not Heal As Good.. But You Know Your Own Body On Healing.. And Remember The Less You Do The Better You Heal |

Update: Well, I sent an email to my PS's office manager, asking what the estimated cost of explant and lift would be, and what the cost would be for a consultation.
Today, she called me (which surprised me, cuz I didn't put my contact number in the email)...said the doc wouldn't charge me a thing for the consult, and said the doc wants me to come in and talk about the procedures, AND "He wants to cut you a good deal." Soooo...I have my consult on Tuesday. I'll let you know the outcome, of course. |

Thanks for the info about the cost for you.
I had my PS consult about explant and lift...PS said he would not charge me the explant charge ($1600), just for the lift ($3400) and of course surgery center and anesthesia costs ($2800 total). So, around $6200 for me, it looks like. Which means it will definately be a while before I can do the surgery.

Thanks Maya...I'll be ok. Have a lot on my plate anyway, and don't know when my rheumatologist would allow me to interrupt my treatment in order to have the breast surgery anyway. I'll ask her Monday.
I was reading the quote from Ivy about doing the explant and lift in two different surgeries. I wonder though...because when I originally got my implants, my PS suggested a lift then (I was too chicken!). So I kinda feel like since I am 90% sure I'll want/need one in the future, why not go ahead and get it done at the same time. Plus, like I mentioned, I have to take quite a lot of meds to try to manage my rheumatoid arthritis---and I hate to think of two surgeries where I might lose headway in getting that under control. I dunno though...I could have the surgery sooner if it weren't for the lift cost. Ivy, if you are reading this....what do you think??? |

If you choose to do it in two surgeries, theres a chance that you might be very unhappy for a while if you can't get the lift as soon as you want. It's a tough choice. Last edited by Ivy; 07-18-2008 at 02:20 AM. Reason: clarification - I'm sleepy |

Thanks Ivy...I really took to heart what you said about having the explant then lift. Even though I am about 90% sure I'll need the lift, due to my new diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis, I am more eager to get these aching implants out than to have perky little boobies!
So, I called my PS and they are sending me new payment info about doing the lift now, then maybe the lift in 6 to 12 months. I should know something in the next few days, as my rheumatologist has given me the go-ahead to stop one of my meds prior to surgery. Thankfully, the "big" meds I won't have to stop at all. But, if my condition doesn't significantly improve in the next 4 weeks, we will be starting a different med that she does not want me to a)use prior to surgery due to increased risk of infection, or b)stop and start because it could cause a relapse. I'll update on here...and be begging for happy thoughts sent my way as my big-boobie journey comes to a screeching halt! Thanks again, Ivy. You are the best... |
