Question Can you help me interpret this?

The breast implant I'm getting is:

550 cc's

15 cm diameter

4.2 cm projection

I think I understand the diameter

4.2 projection is losing me though. what does that mean. If that's how far it's sticking out well that's not good.

Thanks

Hi Astra, from what I understand the projection is the projection of the implant itself. Then, add the volume of breast tissue and muscle you have on top of that. Hope that helps Bev

So let me get this right... they put 550 cc's of saline if 4 CENTIMETERS of projection? How on Earth is that accomplished? Unless I am seeing this wrong on the measuring tape.

But adding two inches to my breasts is NOT going to make me a D. I don't understand how the implant works to make a woman have such full breasts with such small projection. SOMEBODY ! AHHHHH!

Astra, what type of implant are you getting? HP, Mod, Mod+,etc. My PS told me that 100cc equals about 1 cup size on Moderate projection implants. You will have everything else on top of that. You may end up with 4 inches or more projection according to your specs... Call your PS and ask for sure though.
I was so happy to read your thread from the nite before your consult to the one afterwards! I am really happy for You!

well, I'm getting 550s which the doc 'presumes' may give me a mid to full D which is 12 inches in diameter for someone like me who is a 38. (wow, cool)

I just can't imagine how an implant does that. how weird.

and thank you!

What measurements are you taking for the specific implant? There should be a minimum fill set of stats and a maximum fill set of stats (at least there is with Mentor implants, I haven't looked at other websites).

An implant filled to the minimum fill range will have less projection than the exact same implant filled to the maximum reccomended fill amount. If filled to the max it will have less diameter.

Another thing with implants compared to a natural breast measuring the same cup size, is that they are wider. This is one of the reasons women with implants have a hard time finding bras to fit well.

Also the implant profile has a lot to do with projection, moderates will have less projection and more width than a high profile implants of the same cc amount.

I see Lorna already wonderfully put down a lot of the technical info for you!

Projection and width are measured when the implant's laying flat on the table. Within tissue it's going to look very different. There's gravity shaping the implant and then of course, your own tissues adding to the projection. My implants have 5.2cm projection:

It sounds like such small numbers but it really does make a big difference. Also remember that projection alone is not what makes for a cup size. I have to wear 34Es to keep my breasts from flowing over but I have empty space on the sides because of the projection... I guess I'm the opposite of the usual implanted woman whose breasts might technically be a C but require a D-cup to be comfortable because of the width!

If it makes you feel any better, my implants have 3.9cm projection-very close to yours. I am in a D-cup, I absolutely need a D to handle the width of my breasts but there is no loose or empty space in the front of the cup either.

Astra,
Did your PS tell you what brand and profile you're getting?
Looks to me like you're getting Mentor Moderate Profile style 1600:

525 + 50cc
Diameter: 15.0
Projection 4.2 cm

Inamed's 550 implant has these stats:
68LP-550 (this is the low profile implant)
15.1 (Diameter at minimum fill vol)
4.3 (Projection at minimum fill vol)
15.0 (Diameter at max fill vol)
4.5 (Projection at max fill vol)

Inamed's Moderate profile info:
550
14.6 diameter
4.9 projection

What is your breast base width?
If you can hold a 15 cm diameter, then you should ask about the Inamed 68MP's:

600-650 cc
15.0 Diameter
5.0 Projection

Or, if you want more projection, go for a high profile.
I only got 400/420, but mine are HP's, and my projection is 5.0

My boobs look exactly like yours did pre ba when I am my goal weight.

That makes sense though. Gravity and such. I was getting really nervous there for a second. I wonder who engineered such an invention and realized this would actually work? Wow. Thanks! I feel better!

p.s. wish I had your tummy!

p.s. I don't think I want to go any bigger than 550 though because I am worried about bottoming out. I have almost NO breast tissue when I lose weight. I have to be careful. I know in my heart that I'm really pushing it with 550s.
