Smile Problems with anesthesia IV?

Hi, my surgery is 12/27 and I have a couple of questions-I always read that after surgery, you who have had the breast augmentation report, not so much pain, but more pressure in the chest.

Do you ever have pain before the surgery, either in getting the IV for the anesthesia in, or for some other thing they do?

Is the pain after surgery usually pressure on the chest or is there really some pain after surgery? Just trying to prepare myself! Thanks

The IV is not that bad, I'm terrified of needles and I just felt a little pinch, but my arm was sore for a week after surgery.
They didn't do anything else that was painful before surgery in my case.
Some say they don't have much pain after surgery, for me it was very painful.
When I was woken up to move from the bed to the recliner in the hospital I felt like I was going to pass out from the pain.
I can't even describe it because I never felt pain like that before, but it does get better everyday.
Who knows you might be lucky and you won't feel any pain.
It just depends on you pain tolerance and how your body reacts to the trauma.
Good luck!!!

I'm a real baby with needles, but all I felt was a quick sting, and then I was drifting out... I think I had a very good anaesthetist!! Post op, for me anyway, it really was just a feeling of pressure and heavy fullness... not what I'd call pain at all, and nowhere near as bad as I was expecting... I hope you have it as easy as I did!!

the anesthesist couldn't get a needle in my hand so he asked could he give me gas to knock me out - i was all for it. when i was asleep, he started prodding for a vein which didn't bother me cos i couldnt feel it. maybe you could suggest getting gassed first.

I have to be honest and say that my pain was pretty bad. I kept thinking "why does everyone explain it as just pressure????!!!" But then I learned that it's just different for everyone.

And I'm usually very good with tolerating pain... I swear.

After saying that... I can tell you that it was totally worth it! I slept for the better part of 3 days thanks to the pain meds. Ahhhhh.

For me there was pain on the right boob and a baby elephant sitting on my chest. The day of surgery was the worst, but taking the vicodin helped take the edge off. The next day was better. Post op day 3 dh and I went to the grocery store, he pushed the cart; and by day 5 I drove my SUV.

It is surgery and there is going to be some amount of pain and discomfort. It is manageable and doesn't last forever.

I've never had an IV put in me before so I was kind of surprised by the pain it caused me. Not that it was any big deal, just a few seconds of a pinch like feeling, I just assumed it would be like when getting blood drawn or getting a shot.

The pain I felt as soon I woke up from surgery was pretty tolerable. I know it's different for everyone but I think my real pain started after I got home and the anesthesia wore off. But if you stay on top of your pain meds then you can keep the majority of pain at bay. More uncomfortableness than pain really. Hope that helps.

I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming surgery and a pain-free and speedy recovery!

wow I think its great you are getting a breast augmentation for yourself... I think it's more pressure than sheer pain... but i do remember waking up from from anesthesia and it was painful... but after awhile it became a dull ache w/ presure.

I had no prob with the IV site, but i was kept on a drip for about 11 hrs after cos my blood pressure dropped during surgery, then my veins were tissuing, you know where blood flows back thru the tube ? so they took it out, and i still had no problem from the area they put it in....when i woke up from the op, i remember a weird feeling, like a bad chinese burn on both incisions, but nothing on the boobs, then it went away, then the next day the incision site was sore....all my problems post op came from the antibiotics, a lot of them give me the most painful and distressing indigestion, and i can honeslty say, thats my memory of post op, the indigestion and the uncontrollable tiredness and feeling of weakness

I didn't have pain before the surgery. I am scared to death of needles and the IV really wasn't that bad. I really didn't have a huge amount of pressure on my chest other than being bandaged really tight. The pain from after the surgery is, yes, the incision area but really more than that, is the muscles reacting to being streatched out. That was my worst part and that only really lasted for a few days. After that it was just uncomfortable. Now its not so bad even though i'm still healling.

Hi! Good luck with your OP on 27th.
IV was not as bad as I thought - I asked for a thinnest needle possible, it was a slight "pain" when inserted, then nothing after the med kicked in. When I woke up at a recovery room, the first thing I remember was the pressure on my chest, felt like I got tons of bricks on my chest but NOT A PAIN. The part where needle was inserted was sore for few days post OP but it's not something I should call "a pain" either.

The needle for the induction agent just felt like when you go to get a blood test or something...(ask for a 22 guage.... lol...i did..they are tiny!!) I am scared of getting needles...happy giving them to animals though. It did not hurt post-op and the only reason i remembered getting a needle was for the cotton ball taped on my arm.

The best way i can describe afterwards is like ' someone pushing (with some force) 2 softballs against your chest'... especially when i go to sit up.

Sometimes the incisions hurt if i twist funny or something and then the sports bra digs in or the tape pulls on the skin...(i have crease incisions...not sure what you are getting)

All the best for 2moro!!

I didn't have any true pain, just real uncomfortable for a few days, used alot of frozen bags of peas for the swelling, felt stiff too.

Something I did want to mention to you was that if you have problems with getting dizzy easily, or car sick (which I do), you can ask that they give you something in the i.v. for nausea. I didn't want to have sore boobs and be throwing up...yuck. They gave me something, and I was perfectly fine...just slept for 2 days, and then was feeling more like myself.

Drink ALOT OF WATER after your surgery...flush the anesthesia out of your system...and rest, rest, rest. Can't stress it enough. Don't try to do too much.

And after it is all said and done, you are going to look fabulous, and wonder why you didn't do this sooner. lol.

Congrats and good luck !!!

I haven't ever had pain from an IV, so that didn't bother me. I just have to not look when they put it in. After my breast augmentation, I didn't have the elephant on my chest feeling, mine felt more like engorgement you get when you need to nurse a baby. Stay on schedule with your pain meds and you should be fine. Remember to eat something before you take them so you don't get sick to your stomach. Good luck tomorrow, let us know how you are when you fell up to it.
