How hard is it to measure yourself?

So I have read a lot on here about people getting measured incorrectly and I'm just wondering how hard can it be? I have measured myself every way that I have found, there are a couple of different ways and every way I measure myself I end up being a 34B BUT I went bra shopping today and all the 34C bras felt and looked much better. I don't care what the number on my bra says, so if I'm a B that's fine, I just want to know so that I don't buy the wrong thing. I just worry that I'll buy some C bras and then decide that they aren't supportive enough. Has anyone else on here tried to measure themselves and were your results accurate?

I know I have had posts moved before but I don't know if I should put this here or under General breast augmentation discussion so feel free to move this!

When I got measured at Dillards awhile ago, the gal told me it's really hard to get an accurate measure doing it yourself. I haven't measured myself for several month's, but then again, depending on bra I am different sizes. So when I try on new bras I first get the 36D's and go from there.

everytime I measure myself I get a 34C, but there is NO WAY I could dream of fitting into one (not that I would) I took my measurement the first time I went bra shopping and decided a 34 D would probably be right, but NOPE. I wore the wrong size for about a month before I couldn't take it anymore and got professionally measured at 34DD!! LOL happy accident I guess. I was so elated buying a 34D, but that shopping experience for 34DD was really a very happy day for me, and they fit like a glove.

I just buy what fits, KWIM? I've never done the measuring thing. I have been fitted at Nordstrom's..they told me the same size I've been wearing all along. As long as you know how a bra should fit I wouldn't bother w/ measuring charts.

The band should be snug, but not so tight it leaves marks and/or is uncomfy.

It should fit on the first hook best when brand new, as it will stretch out some w/ time, so you'll want to be able to make it tighter.

The center gore should lay flat against your sternum (cleavage). If you have high profile implants, this can be a challenge. I find Panache, Freya, and Fantasie brands have deeper cups than most brands.

The wires should go all way around your breast tissue, not ON it anywhere.

Hope that helped

I agree-the measurements seem crazy! I measure a perfect 36B but almost every 36 B is way too small and I buy 36 C or D!

Thanks for the responses ladies! I actually went to a specialty bra shop today and was measured at 30DD. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't tried it on b/c I DO NOT have big boobs. But the bra feels AMAZING! I had no idea you could wear a bra all day and not have to pull up the straps. It does fit flat against my sternum so I actually have support. I think maybe the specialty stores don't do that old school way of measuring where you measure your ribcage and add five inches. Whatever they do it works because I am in love with this bra!

I measure a full 32C but need a 32D. Cups are too small on 32C

I'm also torn about this. I've been wearing a 34 A all my life, and I just did the JBI measurement method, which says that I'm actually closer to a 32 B!

But What's funny is that If i buy a 32 band at VS it's way too tight! I suppose I should go to another bra shop and be properly measured.

It's funny, because I've never been fond of my boobies, I've actually avoided buying bras because it always depressed me. LOL, maybe that's why I've been wearing the wrong size.

Anyway, the whole measurement experience has made me realize that a 32 C is not that big at all. I might need to tell my PS that I want to be a 32 D or DD.
I tried using the measuring tape to measure out 8.5 in, and I think it looks good.

Cheers!

Jen
