Confused about implants being filled to???

Hi Girls,
I am confused. I thought when you choose your implant size, this is going to be the exact cc's you are going to get. After, reading many post that say for example (380 cc's filled to 420). Does this mean they can actually be over filled in surgery. My PS chose 360 cc's and I thought this would be the exact amount I would be getting. Can he actually put more cc's in during surgery? I do realize there are implants that can be filled, is this what the girls are talking about when they say (filled to)?

Yes, saline implants have an allowed fill range, the 360cc is the minimum fill. If you haven't discussed filling them more then he probably doesn't do that, better ask! Saline implants always come empty and they're filled once inside the body, it's easier that way, you need a smaller incision to squeeze the empty bag in. The implant manufacturers have an allowed fill range that the doctor can fill the implants to, sometimes filling anything above the minimum fill is called overfill but a doctor can actually OVERFILL an implant too which voids the manufacturer warranty (say squeezing in a whopping 450cc into a 300cc implant or something). This does reduce rippling but it is not a recommended practice by the manufacturers as it also makes the implants rupture easier.

Hey hon...this actually comes up a lot b/c so many of us say "overfill" when we really mean "filled to". Like Ina said, there's a range for every saline implant where it's safe to fill more than the standard starting point...this is thought to decrease rippling b/c there's more fluid pushing out on the implant, which is also thought to decrease wear & tear b/c there's less irregular rubbing. My implants are 325, filled to 375 for example. Overfilling is actually when the maximum range is exceeded.

Even when the implant isn't overfilled, the more it's filled over the starting point, the firmer the implant may be...if mine had been filled to 400 for example, they'd probably be a tad firmer. As it is, they're soft & squishy though...so simply filling more doesn't give you hard boobs or anything.

Every PS has their own take on filling so it's worth discussing, but as long as you have confidence in your doc, all's well.

Thanks Ina & Josea! I was just hoping if once in surgery and things didn't look even or proportioned he could just add some more. He told me 360cc's but I had noticed alot of girls get different cc's in each one. I thought I covered everything at my consult but I still have questions popping up in my head.

I have Saline.. and My implant itslef was a 425cc, filled to 480 on the right and 495 on the left.

My PS didn't talk about "fill to" or "over fill" but he did fill my right over the 390cc range b/c it was a tad smaller than my left. I have the 390cc saline implants and my left was filled to 390cc but the right was filled a bit more to compensate for the small difference.

My PS didn't talk in "fill" amounts really. We just chose an implant size and that's it. So I went with 350 and when I looked at my device card after the surgery... it said filled with 350ccs. And I have to say, my boobs are MUCH more firm than I thought they'd be.

This is a great question for you to ask because I wish I had know to ask, I was really stressed about size and decided to go with 420cc and when I came out of surgery he filled to 475cc. I cried at my first post-op visit, I am getting used to them more now but I thought just like you, I chose my size and that is what I would get. Good luck with everything.....

I'm really glad they can be filled. Because, I'm still wondering if 360 will get me a d cup. Oh well, I guess we will know soon enough. Thanks girls

Hey patty! Our stats are the same so i wanted to chime in! I went with 360 filled to 390. I am about a D+. (I'm poppin out of some D"s). I was however a empty b/c pre b/a. I dont know if that helps but since our body stats are simular i thought i'd throw it in!!
