Your PS can measure BWD with a set of calipers. It's better to let the PS do it so you can be sure it's accurate. The difference between mod, mod+ and hp is the width vs. protrusion of the same size (filling) implant... These specs are for Mentor textured round silicone implants. So if you picked a 400cc high profile implant it'd be 12.3cm wide and reach 5.1cm high when positioned on a flat surface. A 400cc moderate profile implant on the other hand would be 13.5cm wide and protrude 3.9cm. Mod+ is the in between, so a moderate plus profile implant with 400cc would be 13.2cm wide and protrude 4.0cm.
Does that explain it?

Sometimes listening to Ina explain things is like watching a golfer get a hole in one. So precise it's exciting!
![]() I would just add that the profile you choose may be based not only on how much projection you want, but also on how much overall volume you want to add. That's because your PS will probably prefer to choose an implant that is just slightly narrower than your breast base width. For example, if your bbw is 12cm, he or she might recommend an 11-cm-wide implant. If you want a natural look, you may not have much choice about implant width. An 11-cm-wide HP implant must be filled to between 330 and 400 ccs. An 11-cm-wide mod plus implant must be filled to between 275 and 320 ccs. An 11-cm-wide mod implant must be filled to between 220 and 225 ccs. (I'm oversimplifying a bit here, because, if you fill an implant the minimum amount, its diameter is less than if you fill it the maximum amount. But the general principle holds. And luckily, it's your PS's job, not yours, to sort this out ). To see how this works, click on the "breast implants" link at the top of this page and follow the links from there to the Mentor "smooth round saline" implant specifications for different profiles. Like I always thought I'd end up with moderate profile because my breasts were pretty wide but I ended up with high profile after all because I wanted "as big as you can squeeze in," so that gave the maximum fill for the diameter that'd fit in me. So even if people here usually oversimplify that narrow-chested women should get high profile and wide-chested women should get moderate that's not always the case. A narrow-chested woman wanting a very small size change might end up with moderate profile, and a wider chest might need high profiles to get big implants.

BTW, I got one thing backwards, an implant filled to the minimum is actually wider when filled to the minimum and narrower when filled to the maximum.
I assume that's because when it's less full, it kinda spreads out, but when you fill it more, it kinda "balls up." (Think of what happens when you fill an air mattress, it kinda picks itself up off the floor). Ina -- I'll arm wrestle you for the "stupid" title LOL -- or better yet, let's just go have a few margaritas together! Last edited by Nikki; 05-24-2008 at 04:46 PM. |

I didn't even notice it was backwards because logic said the fuller the implant the narrower it becomes so I didn't notice how it was written.
You bring the margaritas and I'll bring the champagne
