How did you tell your Dr. that

you wanted to go bigger. I just don't feel like my shape and fullness is what I pictured. I am 450cc now from a deflated B cup and I think I should go maybe 100cc more to get a more round, filled out look. I am scared to tell my doctor. I don't want to insult his judgement -- he picked the size for me in the OR based on what I told him i was looking for. I asked for a small D, which is what I have, but a small D on me does not look like the nice full shape it looks like on others, maybe because I'm 5'7.

Any advice on how to approach my doctor about this. He is great, but I'm just nervous about this.

Also, totally dreading the whole healing process if I get a redo, but I want to get it right.

I'm in the same boat, and actually have an appt with my doc today, so i'll let you know how it goes! I was so worried about being too big that I ended up not going big enough Don't be afraid to tell your doc that you didn't get the results you were expecting...it's a lot of money to spend to not end up completely happy!

thank you. It is nice to hear from someone going through the same thing. Let me know too if he expects you to pay full price for another set. I know I would at least have to pay for anastesia (sp?) and some additional cost. What size are you now and what do you want to get to? Please let me know what you say/he says. How long do you have to wait for a redo? THANKS!!!!

I was in the same boat as well. I just told him that he DID pick the exact size I wanted, but that since implants look smaller than real ones I "missjudged" what "I" actually wanted. I told him that I love them, but I wanted to "..."
Just be very nice and sincere. Its not bashing his work, you just had a different vision than what is possible bc implants look smaller and its easy for US to get that confused. You know?

I've heard that it's more expensive because you have to pay for the old ones to be taken out on top of getting the surgery done again. I could be wrong, but this is the impression I got when asking around awhile back.

Thanks for this post. I don't feel too bad about feeling like I didn't get it quite right the first time b/c there are so many that end up feeling that way. But it helps to know there are people that can relate! I'm so nervous to bring it up too especially since my doc advised going a bit bigger. I just didn't believe people when they told me they look smaller once they're in. Haven't heard about having to pay to take the old ones out but I have heard they usually want you to wait a minimum of 3-6 months and ideally 6 months or more. It'll be interesting to hear what your doctor says. I'm seeing mine this week so I'll let you know too. qrx1239, thanks for the suggestion on how to approach it. I'm going to borrow that! (: jlouis, being 5'7 definitely has something to do with it IMO. I'm tall too and I think our entire stature influences the way they look. Best of luck to you. Let us know how it works out.

I too started out with 450cc Silicone Unders for my 1st breast augmentation. Although I LOVED them I wanted a little more fullness.......I just told him that as much as I LOVED them that I wanted to go a little bigger and he said no problem it was DEF do-able. So I went up to 550cc's......NOW I am SERIOUSLY thinking of going back ONE last time and getting 800cc's. As much I LOVE my 550's I know I can DEF handle the 800's. Good luck to you and just go in and be honest with him, I'm sure he will not be offened and totally understand. Look at how many of us have gone back a 2nd and 3rd time. It'll all be good!!!!

P.S. my 2nd time around I was awke and the healing was a BREEZE, I drove myself there and home and went to work the next day!! GL

I've heard of this. Did they have you in like a twilight sleep? Did you ask for that or did the doctor suggest it? I'd be interested in that. Although I didn't get sick from the anesthesia, my voice was hoarse for a week b/c they must stick some tubing down your throat or something. Thanks for the advice. Best wishes on your next redo.

Hi there bb8
Actually I was not put out at all. He used lidocaine for the entire procedure. So he numbed me up and then opened the incision and pulled out the old implant and put in the new implant. The most I felt was tugging and pulling but ABSOLUTLEY NO PAIN at all!!!! He told me every step of the way what he was doing and what to expect. The weirdest part of it all was laying there and talking to my PS in a normal conversation while he was doing the entire procedure. It was DEF an experience I won't forget. However, I am asssumiong that I was not put under because the current pocket was large enough to hold the implant size, had I gone even bigger it may have been a dif story. Hope that helps!

Wow! I can't imagine being awake that whole time! Although that's really similar to what they did when I had a benign lump taken out and with my csection. So I guess if I could handle that I could handle the breast augmentation. Thanks for the info!

I feel the exact same way! I'm 5'6" and now that I'm 6 months post op and they have D&F already, now they get lost in my clothes. I really think I could have handled a 750 with my frame....And to think I was worried 550cc would be too large...on some ladies they look like I want them to look on me! BIGGER!!

It just depends on how your body can carry them....I'd love to get them redone but not sure how to mention it to my doc or my husband! ???

Well, he doesn't think that I should go bigger because I will lose the "natural" look I initially requested. But he told me to "live" with them for a few months and then decide, since I'm only a month in after surgery. He thinks this size is perfect on me, but I've been obsessing that they are too small since I woke up from surgery lol. He's willing to go bigger, but he's not sure if I'm going to be happy with the size (he's worried I'll think they're too big and unnatural). I got saline MP 300cc's f/t 330cc's and they don't give me the fullness and larger profile that I THOUGHT I would have achieved with that size. I basically told him I didn't realize how much smaller they were going to be under the muscle compared to the sizers I tried on, at the time 330's seemed huge! lol I told him I was really happy with his work and that they looked great, but I was disappointed with how small they looked when wearing shirts that weren't revealing. I went from a small 34B to a large 34C/small D. I asked for HP this time, so I would have to go up to at least 455cc's to still get the correct width for my size. I'm hoping to be a full D cup, as I'm not sure that I would still look proportionate if I was any larger (I'm 5'5" and ~125lbs and have a small frame). I would have to pay for anesthesia and OR fee, plus $1,000 for the removal & replacement so roughly $3,500. It sucks that I didn't do more research into CC's and the diff between HP & Mods before my surgery to get it right the first time...I just found this site after the fact

I am right there with you, i want a little more fullness. I have mentioned at my other post op appts that I wish I went bigger, I did let him knoe that I am completly happy with the look and my ps gave me what I asked for. I made it seem more like my fault, which it is. Threre wasnt much to do at that time anyway, I have to talk more when I go in Dec!

I wanted 450cc and then read everyone on JBI saying they wish they went bigger. So at my consult i brought in photos of the look i wanted. My surgeon went with 650cc So i am all good in the size department. BUT even going big didnt get that upper roundness or implant look. It just got me big boobs. I feel like mrs doubtfire naked. Not sure what my solution would be as my surgeon has flat out told me "it is good, dont mess with it" you just didnt get that look .... made me feel like i did this all for nothing.

When I had my consult with my surgeon, I told him what I wanted to be.. He then took an implant cc in his head and asked me to try on sizers and see what I wanted... Afterwards, I told him my choice (500cc's) and he told me his (475cc's).. I asked him first, if my body/bwd, etc would be able to accomodate 500's and he said yes.. that his choice was just a base idea.. He told me that what he chose and what I wanted were two different things.. That as long as everything would 'fit' properly, he would be happy to oblige. A few days before my surgery, I had been reading on here and learned about loosing a percentage of the implant.. I then called and asked if it would be ok if I went up to 600.. They said that would be fine.. THEN, on the DAY of surgery, I asked him if I could go up to 800. He said if he'd have had 800's at the surgery center, then yes, I could have done that.. He also said that I could post pone my surgery and have 800's ordered... He was very open and just great...

I really dont think you are insulting your surgeons intelligence by asking for larger. I believe that if he thought a certain size would not work for you, he would say so. Although our surgeons are good at thier job and know what they are doing, at the end of the day, its OUR choice... And if you asked to go bigger and he didnt think it was a good idea for your body, he would say so and why. You are paying your surgeon to give you what you want.. Just tell him that you feel you want to go bigger and why.. He wont get mad.. I just talked to my doc today about having a re-do and going bigger and he was honest and upfront about my options..

So dont worry about insulting him. If he is a good surgeon and cares about his patients, he will accommodate you, as long as its nothing that will hurt you..

HTH!

I actually had no problems telling my doc that I loved the look of my breasts, but they weren't as big as I'd like them to be. He just said if I chose to get a redo then wait 3-6 mo and we could arrange it. I held off for awhile voluntarily, but 2yrs later I'm just wanting for them to be bigger so my redo is now for 925cc. Your doc has heard it all before. Women wanting to go larger so don't worry about letting him know. I don't think he would take offense to it, that thought never even crossed my mind that asking for larger would make a ps feel that way. I'm 5'5 and my current 475cc makes me a DD. They really don't look like it under clothes do they? Mines look too real and I love the big round upper pole look of breast augmentation's. I hope you ask and get what you want! It's your $$ why on earth NOT?!?

well i sat in his office and started out telling him all the things i loved about my results. then i started to talk about the ONE thing that i am so upset about and i started to cry. All he said "well you need to focus on the positives, this is a good as i can get it, we tried but you didnt that look you were after" before surgery he was MORE than confident he could deliver what i was showing him in the photos i brought in. I am only at 4 months post op, so i am going to wait to 6 months (do more research, get another opinion) and then go back. He says lipo around the bottom incisson will give me a more rounded look, but i tried to explain to him that the bottom is not what i care about it is the upper part looking rounded

I think you should tell him what you want, do not go to small!!! After you would regret it!! I wanted to have 800cc after my last surgeon but my doctor said 4 days before the op now, what a jerk!!!
Now I need to look for a new one who will do it, in Switzerland really difficult......
I wish you good luck
