SAW ANOTHER PS about Tenting/Synmastia

So today I visited Dr. Romano in SF and I guess i got good news and bad news. Basically he told me I def. have a mild version of synmastia but that he wants me to wait as LONG as possible. He said there still may be swelling, and that wearing the thong bra will def. help. He want's me to come back in 3 months to revisit, but he said he'd prefer if I waited a year.
He seems to think that if I wait it out and let my implants fall more into place and drop more, that the top of my tenting may not be as visible and I may be able to live with it.
I'm upset because waiting 6 months or a year for that matter seems like a lifetime. But I guess I don't have many choices.
I mean on one hand I hope it gets better over time so i don't have to have a 2nd BA. But waiting that long to find out drives me crazy.

Just thought I'd give you guys an update.
BTW....I haven't approached my PS yet about it, but I did write him a letter when I couldn't sleep the other night. I plan on sending it soon.
And just an FYI for anyone in Norther California, Dr. Gray in SF wont see you unless it has been 12 months after your original surgery, I was kinda dissapointed about that. But apparently he just doesn't want to do redo's.

Hi Jewel,
I sent you a massage on your profile yesterday, you did not reply - I don't insist...and I dont want to disturb you, sorry if I did. Just wanted to tell you that I am going to see another PS today as well...bc I can't sleep at night, always worried...& I feel for you bc it looks like I am in the same boat.

I wish you the best & I hope that it will work out without a second BA! Take good care!
Natalia

Fashionknockout will become famous soon enough
Hi Jewel,
I speak from experience and just wanted to let you know that
symmastia does not get better over time, it only gets worse.
The reasoning is because your tissues keep lifting from the sternum
and then eventually fully detach, causing full blown symmastia.
I agree with your ps. I had to wait 6 months for my redo, but not to
see if my inplants would drop, but so scar tissue would form inside
the capsule so the sutures had something to hold on to.
Did the doctor you just saw ever done any symmastia repairs?

Hang in there. Waiting and not knowing what the future holds are the hardest parts of all of this. The disappointment of your surgery not going as you thought it would is very disheartening as well. What a let down after all of the anticipation, expense, and pain, huh?
I speak from experience. I've had 5 (yes, 5) surgeries in order to correct the problems that my surgeon caused for me. My original surgeon overdissected my pockets, recommended the wrong size and type of implants for me (which caused extreme rippling and bottoming out), made me very asymetrical, and really didn't care about the extreme pain I was in after surgery due to his poor surgical techniques. Ten years and many corrective surgeries later, I found my current PS who completely healed my situation and gave me the results I've always dreamed of. You will eventually be fine. It takes time and patience and an experienced PS who will work with your situation and care about giving you the best possible results. I never thought it would be possible for me to recover from the damage that first surgeon did, but my PS completely saved my breasts. My breasts now look like any first time augmentation patient's and this can happen for you, too!

And let me just say that you are already in better shape than I was back then, and in no way am I implying that you will need as many corrective surgeries as I did! Take your time and find the best PS you can, and he may be able to repair it to your satisfaction the first time. And, if you need a referral, Dr. Robert Cohen in Paradise Valley, AZ (near Scottsdale) is the amazing surgeon who saved my breasts. It is well worth traveling to get the result you need. I would recommend this surgeon to ANYONE. I'm not saying this lightly- he is a genius.

NATA 25: So Sorry I didn't write you back, I can't....they disabled my messaging I think, because it doesn't work at all. I can't private message or send comments. I'm not an elite member.
But get the thong bra right away. I wish I had right from the beginning and don't wear a sports bra at all, or anything that would push them together. And if you start doing massages don't push in. The thong bra sucks I'm not gonna lie, but it will help it from not coming closer together or in the beginning, like where you are, it could help push out the implants a little.
I can send you pictures. Email me at
I have pics from really soon out, I couldn't tell at first but once they dropped is when it got bad.
I feel for you.

Fashion Knockout: he did say he's done it before, but he also told me that this particular problem....I wouldn't find many surgeries in the area that someone would be in expert in. He said he felt comfortable doing them, but doesn't do them all the time. He gave me two names of doctors in Texas and Tennessee that are like the best or something. But he felt pretty confident he could make it better.
I guess because I still have two pockets and mostly just have a problem with the tenting in the middle. He seems to think waiting it out will help. I don't know should i get more opinions? I feel like there are NO experts in my area. It's like I'd have to fly out just to get an opinion.

AZAGAIN: OMG....I applaud you for continuing to look and get results. I'll be honest with you, I'd probably give up after the 2nd one. God I'm so happy for you though, that you could get it fixed. Does you doctor specialize in revisions? Does he know how to fix synmastia? Arizona isn't that far for me.

A year seems like a long time, but it will be here sooner than you know it. It's definately a good idea to get a thong bra, since you will need it later. Good luck to you. I hope that it all works out for the better.

Dr. Cohen is not officially a revision specialist but he does a ton of them and is very, very good. He does a lot of breast surgery of all kinds- primary and revisional, etc. Go to his website at scottsdalecenterforplasticsurgery.com and check out some of his work. I hope this helps. Obviously, with my situation I really needed someone great and I am 100% thrilled that I chose him.

Jewel, also be sure when you visit his site to look at the revision augmentation patients. It looks to me like he's corrected a lot of very serious problems and I would geuss that he's seen his fair share of symmastia. Since symmastia isn't a very common BA complication, it might be difficult to find a true specialist, but you just look as long as you feel necassary to make sure you go with the right surgeon!

There was a woman on there with bottoming out and other issues that are very, very hard to fix and he did an unbelievable job. It doesn't even look like the same person in the after photo! Symmastia repair is no joke but it definitely can be done. I think that overdissected pockets as well as implants that are too large for a person's tissues to support are what cause symmastia.

Have you considered having the implants taken out for a while to give your body some time to heal and then replacing them later? I think even 3-6 months might give your body enough time to heal and sort of "start over". I know this might sound like the end of the world but it may be the best option for a great final result given your situation. I think it might depend on the skill level of the surgeon as some can go in and fix just about anything and some need to "stage" it. I bet Dr. Cohen could fix it all in one.

Also, I am not sure what size or profile you have. Could you switch to high profile and go a bit smaller in order to take some pressure and width off of the inner part of your chest? Just some ideas...

Thanks for your comment regarding my determination to fix my breasts. I wasn't willing to give up.
