Told not to eat garlic 2 weeks before surgery!

And i cant drink red wine! I could understand the red wine, but garlic?!? That is going to be difficult to cut that out since pretty much everything I cook has some fresh garlic in it! (and I enjoy that food with red wine) Oh, and no ginger, either..Anything else I should avoid before or after surgery?

Garlic can be a natural blood thinner. I know it seems odd, but it is better to be safe. I have seen many different (and odd) things that the ladies here have been told to avoid. Just stick with the list your PS gave you to b on the safe side.

For sure! Also told to avoid ginko, ginseng, feverfew, st. john's wort, licorice, fishoil, glucosamine or vitamine E. Natural supplements, who would think??

3 months PO - went back to Nordstroms and was sized a 34DDD

I let the PS decide during the surgery what will be best for my body! So happy he put in 550cc silicone under muscle

LOL my list has garlic, and lots of others umm cucumbers pickles strawberries grapes oranges peaches vinegar cherries and the list goes on ... it says they can affect the blood and should be kept to a minimum for two weeks before and two weeks after? I asked the nurse she said do not over do them!

thats good to know! its so weird to read what some PS's are telling you girls what not to eat and drink and mine isn't strict at all. so i wonder why that is...why if they are doing the same exact surgery why one girl cant have alcohol for 2 weeks before and after and then mine and some others said that its fine to even have a drink the day before.....but i'm going to try to just do everything i can that all the others say like not having alcohol or anything blood thinning for awhile. i also heard a lot of the things they say that are natural blood thinners and not to have a week or whatever before surgery, it doesnt matter because they dont stay in your system for more than like 24 hours...am i making sense? anyway that is all lol

I think that they just give us the list to let us know. With my first BA almost 9years ago I didnt have any restrictions...at all ! I dont think having garlic with a meal before your BA is going to really hurt you..or eating grapes...lol now if you ate everything on that list all day everyday 2weeks prior then it would be different.

Oh wow! Really?! I had no idea there were so many food restrictions. That's going to be a hard one for me to adhere to . . . I just LOVE me some food!

Mine said no protein bars which I thought was really strange. I checked mine and there are no extra supplements in them. It is weird to me. I am kind of bummed because I have to stop the 30 days out and I eat them for a snack since I use them to replenish protein post workout. I get the vitamin E, I get the vitamin C, but protein bars? Makes no sense!

My PS said I could still use small amounts in cooking but to not take any supplements or eat a whole jar sort of thing.

Mine said no ginger, garlic, red wine, similar to yours, bride2be. Thankfully I don't have to cut out all the other foods!

I don't generally drink red wine or eat garlic or ginger, but I do like chai tea and it has ginger in it. So I guess I'll be waiting for a while to drink that again!

Its definitely interesting to see what PS advises you against and what other do not. My doctor definitely takes a more homeopathic approach toward healing and what natural supplements can either promote or affect healing.
For example: One week before surgery I have to take: Vitamin C--1000mg, this is a factor in collagen synthesis and will aid in wound healing.
Zinc-Also aids in wound healing.
B Complex-immune strengthening and skin healing effects.
Arinca Montana 30 mg-5 tablets 3x/day, a healing aid from an alpine flower.

THEN, 2 weeks AFTER the surgery:
Bromelain--Enzyme derived from a pineapple. It has been shown to reduce swelling, bruising, healing time and pain.
Vitamins B,C and Arnica Montana...

LOTS of natural medicines here!! I am a big believer in natural healing power, kept people alive before advancements in medicine.
