Did you tell insurance company?

So it JUST occurred to me (call me stupid), but I haven't been sick enough to go see anyone but the practitioners I work with, so I haven't had a need to use my insurance since I had my last bad migraine (pre-breast augmentation.) But I just scheduled an appt. today, and it came to mind... With all the hustle of everything, I never thought to mention it to Tricare before I had the surgery since they weren't going to cover costs and I knew it. Should I have done this? Will they decide to drop some of my coverage?? Good grief... I feel crazy now. For those of you with ins., what did you have to do? Thanks for the advice, gals

I think every ins co is different.

Mine said as long as treatment is medically necessary, even if caused by the breast augmentation, they will pay for it. They will even pay for the more expensive post-breast augmentation mammograms.

My employer will change ins co's in Jan and who knows, they may exclude more. I've heard other co's in the past have not covered anything to do with breasts after.

But i've never heard of a co that would exclude you from covering things not related to breasts.

I didn't tell my insurance company. I know they don't cover BAs or Lifts and I'm sure they wont cover any complications if any come up so I didn't bother telling them.
I do hope if they find out they don't kick me off... that would really suck!
I just hope they never have to find out.

I just figure that if they ever ask me, I'll tell. If they don't ask.... I won't tell.

Selective disclosure. Heh.

I don't know, Katie! LOL. That's what I'm wondering. I didn't think so either at first, but when I made my gyno appt. and thought about when they will ask my med. history, I wondered if they would disclose that to my insurance company, etc. Hmmm.

That's great, Jacqueline! There aren't many insurances that cover it in the least, so consider yourself lucky Did you get yours all paid for, then?

Hey Dreamz, I know what you mean! I'm just worried about being "kicked off" perhaps, but in my mind, I really don't believe that would happen. I just don't picture myself calling up insurance and saying "Hey, I had a breast augmentation.... okay, bye!" Hehe. Strange. How are you and the girls doing??

Oh I know what you mean too! I'm worried about being kicked off but just try not to think about it since hopefully it'll never happen.
Well I'm doing ok, my girls are ok I guess. Leftie is STILL high and I'm a little worried now about a possible double bubble in my rightie but am doing my absolute BEST not to freak out about it because MAYBE that's not what it is and it will get better? I see my PS 11-3 so I'll address my concerns then-I have a list. he he...
Thanks so much for asking!
I forgot that our BAs were so close together-yours was on 9-1 and mine was on 9-5. How are YOU and your girls doing now?

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that you're having so many complications!! I PRAY there is no double bubble! It's all so uncertain when you have unders in the beginning because it takes longer for things to heal but you're ready to get to the final result. But your appt. isn't too far away, so I'm sure you will be able to get all your questions answered then.

I'm doing very well and LOVE mine. The only thing that I am not liking is 1)the horrible rippling... I knew for some reason it wouldn't get better, it's only gotten worse, b/c now I have it in both breasts all around, and 2) the areola reduction breast is healing with a purplish scar around it. Maybe as it's fully healed, it will look better, but it still looks a little "Frankenboob" as my coworker called it, HAHA. Well, keep me up to date on how things go for you, sweetie!

LOL! No, my breast augmentation wasn't covered. I said that confusingly.

What I mean is, if I had had a medical complication caused by the breast augmentation, like internal bleeding or a massive infection, which needed medical treatment to restore my physical health, the ins co will cover that even though it was caused by having breast augmentation surgery. Does that make sense?

Thanks Nichole! Thank you for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers! I sure hope and pray that too! I really hope that everything will be just fine... I TRY not to worry but you know how it is... I hope my PS answers my questions... sometimes I really just feel very rushed so hopefully this time wont be that way but I'm betting it will be.
I'm SOOOO glad you're doing so good and that you love them!!! YAY!
I am so very sorry about the rippling! I wonder if with a little more time it will get better?
I bet that the scar will heal and look just fine! Are you using any strips or anything on your scars?
I'm using Neosporin Silicone Strips on mine. The left vertical scar is the worst (all of them are ugly though)... the right one is SO dark and I know it will always be ugly. I have really pale skin so that doesn't help.
Anyway, thanks so much! (((HUGS)))

If you have group insurance (through your job) they won't drop you.

It's only possible if you pay for your own policy. And even then, most will still keep you on if they find out.

Nichole,

If you have your insurance through your work (or your husbands work) they can't drop you for getting implants. If you have independent insurance, they can drop you for any reason they feel necessary.

I did tell my insurance company (Kaiser). I had to, I wanted a mammogram pre-breast augmentation and I had to get a referral from them to get it done. This did not cause a problem with my insurance at all. They even gave me the mammogram free - I didn't have to pay my co-pay. Since my breast augmentation, I have changed insurance providers (UHC) and there have been no problems or questions asked.

If I were you, I wouldn't say anything unless it's brought up. Even then I would just say, "yes, I have implants."

I have BC/BS and I didn't tell them either. I asked this same question prior to my breast augmentation as well, because it was also a worry of mine if something were to go wrong. I do know they can't drop you for having implants

I called my insurance to see what pre-op exams would be covered. They said all of them. I simply said I was having surgery but didn't specify that it was elective. Don't ask, don't tell!

I pay for my own bare bones policy from Blue Shield. I believe the premium I pay is based on full disclosure of my medical history? If I get breast augmentation, I HAVE to tell them right? I have this major fear that if I don't tell them and anything else goes majorly wrong (having nothing to do with the breast augmentation) that they won't cover me because they will say that their coverage was based on full disclosure and since I wasn't fully honest in updating them that they will drop me then and refuse to cover anything? Is that right?

Doctor offices don't disclose medical history to insurance companies unless they request your records.
