Ice boobs after surgery?

Will icing your boobs after surgery help decrease swelling? is this part of normal post up care?

Definitely follow your PS instructions as some instruct you to ice and others do not. I was told to ice to help with swelling but only for the first 3 days post op because I was told after 3 days it wouldn't help with anything. I started icing as soon as I got home from surgery.

That is what my ps instructed. It really helped. Not only did it feel great. It did help with swelling i think. I used one of those blue gel packs. Much more comfortable. Does not completly freeze but cold enough.

I wasn't ever told to ice mine. It never occurred to me to do it! I did have drains for 4 days though, so maybe that's why. I didn't have any swelling becuase of the drains.

I was told to ice mine for 20min at a time. It felt soooo good too. I only had to do it for about 3/4days and I really think it did help.

I wasn't told either way, but heard on here to do it. I did and it felt good. When the nurse called the day after to see how I was doing I mentioned it...She said that ice can cause muscle spasms in some patients, but if it wasn't with me then it was fine. Just not something she would recommend to everyone.

I was told I could ice for up to 20 minutes at a time. I used a blue gel icepack from Walgreens but I got annoyed having to keep getting up to put it in the freezer then get up again to pull it out. Didn't end up icing but maybe once a day for the first week. It did feel good though because my boobs felt really really hot.

Passion will become famous soon enough
I was allowed to ice post-op and I liked how it felt. It helped with the pain and the swelling. I would suggest buying the frozen peas ice packs from Rite Aid.

I was also told to use ice post-op. I actually had an ice pack strapped to my boobs (on top of the dressing of course) when I woke up after the breast augmentation.

I got those Pea Ice Packs from CVS, LOVED them.

I got those too! What size pack did you end up getting? I'm trying to use up all of my FSA funds and bought medium sized ones.. but I'm thinking that I should get large one instead?

I have heard some surgeons say to ice and some do not think you have to unless you want to. I iced the first and third time. I found it helpful, and it is not gonna hurt you. Just make sure the ice in not on your bare skin so you do not get burned from it, you will be a-ok!

I wasn't instructed to ice at all. I have read many posts on this site (like as stated above) icing feels good. I probably could have called him to ask, but the thought really didn't cross my mind. Anyway, I was fine without ice. My pain meds were great.

My doctor gave me detailed written instructions but they didn't even mention using ice. Weird.

I was told by my ps to ice mine for 20 minutes at a time. It made the pain so much better! I used regular frozen peas and had two bags so one was frozen all the time!

I ha ven't had my BA yet, but my PS said that she recommends using ice packs. She said to use 4. 2 for the top and 2 for the bottom for the swelling. Just not to put them over your nipples. HTH!

PS said no ice

I had my preop yesterday and my PS specificallyy said NO ice or heat - I realized it when I got home, so I haven't been able to ask why. I don't get it - it seems like ice will help with swelling, and everyone on JBI seems to have used ice. Strange.
