weight gain after surgery?? does this really happen??

hi ladies,

Ive seen a lot of you posting that you gained water weight after BA? Mine is in two weeks and im just curious what I should expect. I know the implants will weigh a few pounds, but what is all the water weight from? Just trying to be informed so I dont have a total meltdown afterward :/

I went up 8 pounds but it was all gone in one week. Actually ended up losing weight because I was out of the gym and not lifting weights.

It's a temporary weight gain. Implants do have weight - I think mine weigh about a pound and a half.

Yes, it's all the meds and temporary. I gained about 4-5 lbs and it was all gone around 2 1/2 weeks. Drink lots of water!

Yes I looked pregnant for up to a month!! I don't know why my belly was so swollen, my dr told me that you get pumped with a lot of fluid during surgery and it can take weeks for it to completely leave your body.

Makes me wonder how your appetite is usually effected post-surgery. Did y'all become ravenous or not have much of an appetite or stay about the same as pre-surgery? I tend to "eat my feelings" >_>

lord, yes. and it freaked me out. i know it will go away, but still....

i have gained 10 pounds since yesterday, and i know that something like only 2.5 of that is silicone. add to that, i gained 3 pounds on a long get away weekend last weekend (i love seafood and had easy access to fresh seafood and was a piglet) and now i look like a beached whale.

i know that once i get off the pain pills to ease the constipation and because of what they do to my metabolism, i can get back down to my 120 self. but in the mean time, between bloat and frankenboob, i just want to throw a blanket over my body and go into hiding for a couple of weeks.

but i know it is temporary, so i will live. i just hope not to crack any mirrors in the mean time.

anticipate it

this is the not so glamorous part of it...water gain, constipation and bloating. I drank plenty of fluids before and after and still am...and I am just now getting back to the non bloat feeling. I lived on crackers and applesauce and water bc that is all I could tolerate. I literally make myself eat just to stay regular (if you know what I mean) Just remember it is just temporary...your boobs are the only permanent thing and they will go thru thier own changes along with your body.

I just had surgery on Tuesday, and haven't pooped at all (TMI I know haha).....but now I feel as though people think that I am just pregnant because when you get pregnant you get the baby belly and big ol boobs. I keep looking at myself and saying OMFG I better not let my stomach "catch up" to my boobs!!!!

I didn't weigh myself until a week after surgery (and my bowel movements had returned to normal) and I only gained 1 pound.

You will be fine! Just drink lots of water!

I didn't notice a change in appetite other than feeling very hungry when I got home the day of the surgery, oddly enough!

I gained about pounds right after. I was really swollen. The weight came off within a few days. I think meds and drinking tons of water were the reason.

I definitely gained weight immediately post op. I looked pregnant for a few weeks but once the constipation went away and I got off the pain meds
I started to go back to normal. My boobs added about a pound or 2 but that was all. The water weight goes away though so don't worry too much.

My surgery was on Monday and I gained 8lbs! It's from the anesthesia and fluids during surgery. I've been drinking tons of water with lemon or lime. I only took the pain medicine the first night and have been using Ibuprofen I couldn't stand the bloated feeling. Miralax in the water took care of that. As of today lost 5 of the pounds so it will go away just keep up with your water (I also had my DH take me for low impact walks every evening to help with the bloated feeling and come in a drink more water!) HTH

Some say yes, some say no. I think it's truly dependent on each person's metabolism. If you are overeating because you are bored because you can't move much...yea I see how you can gain a pound or two. I think it's just best to not let your emotions affect you and avoid eating to cope with post-op mood swings because of the meds.

I gained about 6 pounds in the week following my surgery and I lost it right away. I seriously think I was just just swollen or bloated.

I think I am going to hide the scale the day before surgery, and not pull it out until I start feeling semi-normal again. Like everyone else said, between the water weight from the IV fluids they pump into you, to not working out, and not pooping from the pain pills.... Yeah, I think it's best to just not even deal with the scale!

I'm two weeks post-op, and DEFINITELY still going through this weight gain phase. For me, I think it is a combination of my body still being a little wacky because of the meds, and because I'm not being active right now at all. I usually go to the gym 5 days a week, so sitting on my butt right now just eating and reading isn't doing much for my figure. It is weird, because I'm only showing a gain of 1.5 lbs on the scale, but I LOOK so much bigger!!! As a forewarning, it can be a pretty emotional thing to look in the mirror and see a total transformation of your body overnight--not just the boobies, but the bloat as well.
