Question Tanning in Tanning Beds...

Hi ladies,

I am set to get my breast augmentation in just over a week! I am so excited I can hardly think straight. I am also insanely nervous! ahhh! I have done my research though (and many thanks to JBI and women on it for the amazing information), have an awesome surgeon, and am prepared (I think).

I searched the forums a little bit regarding my question, but didn't find an answer to my exact question. Are all tanning beds as safe as they would be without implants (saline)? This may sound INCREDIBLY silly but I am worried the bed is too hot and will melt the implant or something! lol...sorry! I have to ask though. So, for the ladies that tan, are your Saline implants OK in tanning beds?
And then just 2 more questions for the tanners:
1) how soon after breast augmentation did you feel comfortable tanning (laying in bed, getting out..etc?)
2) Do you cover implants or just incision spots?

Thank you in advance! Please forgive my naive questions!

My PS recommends no tanning beds for 9 months. Never had a prob with my current implants. Some girls cover their breasts bc incision scars can permenantly darken with UV rays. And streched skin burns easier. At the beach you should put sunscreen on even under you bikini tops. HTH.

Are all tanning beds as safe as they would be without implants (saline)? IMO yes. I use to work at a tanning salon for years and my PS said I would be OK.
And then just 2 more questions for the tanners:
1) how soon after breast augmentation did you feel comfortable tanning (laying in bed, getting out..etc?)I honestly didn't tan for almost a month after. It was still hard for me to lay completely flat and get up. They felt like they were floating when i did. I would recommend the stand up.
2) Do you cover implants or just incision spots? I covered my incisions and didn't go as often. i used winkies to cover my incisions. I also made sure i put extra lotion on the girls so they wouldn't burn and i did NOT go the full time. I worked my way back up. I don't go as often as i use to that is for sure. My membership is for the best bed (lowest UVB rays) I would DEF recommend the lowest UVB and highest UVA ray beds.

Hope this helps

The surgeon suggests waiting the 9 months bc scar tissue is extra sensitive and can tan darker than surrounding skin and permenantly stay that way causing the incision site to be very visible. Think I will take his advice and wait as long as I can and then always cover my nipples(as I am having an aereola incision this time) I am one of those people that need a tan to feel my best so waiting the whole 9 mo may be tough. Im sure Ill at least be hitting the beach so i will go the sunscreen under the bikini top route

Spray tanning is fine as it does no damage to the skin at all.I covered my incisions as the colour will adhere more to scars and make them look darker but as the colour fades it won't darken them permanently like UV rays can.

Hi Girls
I am currently working as a spray tanning technician as have had my new boobies for 12 weeks this Tuesday I have had many a tan since getting my BA I did cover the scars at first but only the first 2 times.I would say it would depend on the solution u use and the way it was applied. My scars are not darker for getting spray tans at all

Smile

These are the actual instructions word for word from my PS.
INCISION CARE:
Avoid exposing scars to sun for at least 12 months.
If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a strong sun block (SPF 30 or greater)
If you use a tanning bed or sunbathe, be sure to cover any and all scars for one (1) year.
Tanning the scars and bruises before they are healed can cause discoloration.

Hope this helps!

A golden tan looks beautiful but

Implants or not, it isn't good for the largest organ of your body! Take care of your skin ladies. Spray tans are much better because the don't cause: basale cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, or malignant melanoma.

Lecture over! But if u want to check your skin:

In this article there are pictures of when not to worry and when to worry about a "mole" or "freckle"... http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/2008-07/skincare
