Exclamation HELP: Need articles/studies stating NO LINK btwn implants & birth defects/cancer/etc

Disclaimer: I did not start this thread for people to debate on. i read the other thread about safety of implants and things got very heated. Please only respond if you have useful information showing how safe implants are. If you believe they are dangerous then please don't tell me about it! I believe they are safe enough to get, I am looking for help in convincing my OH who is ignorant about implants. (Admin - hope this is ok, but I just don't want the same thing to happen as on the other threads).

My OH finally revealed the reason he is opposed to my BA: He 'doesn't trust' the silicone, it's not natural etc, he would like to have kids with me in the future and he doesn't want to risk them being unhealthy or having problems. He also thinks that siliicone implants can cause cancer. He is obviously ignorant but like a lot of men, thinks he knows everything! He has agreed to read any articles I can find, however.

If anyone knows of any authoritative articles or studies about the safety of silicone implants and breastfeeding/pregnancy (ideally I would like to hear that no silicone reaches the child through either placenta or breastmilk...I don't think it does, does it?) the please post in this thread. Also, anything about no link between implants and cancer would be great.

The simpler the articles the better, my boyfriend is foreign and speaks almost fluent English but I know he will find some things quite difficult to read.

I could get saline.. but 1) I don't want to (implant longevity less, amongst other reasons) and 2) its almost unheard of to get saline in uk and I'm not going to do this by halves... if I want a BA, and I want silicone, then I'm getting a Silicone BA.

He wants me to wait until we're done having kids (if that happens, if we're together!) before getting a BA. But he also said he is not sure he would 'accept' the new me. I will still be me!! But he doesnt think like that. Strangely enough, he didnt think this 'acceptance' this would be such a problem if we already had a family together...

If I can't convince him IDK what to do b/c basically 1)I'm not sure if I WANT any more kids EVER, and anyway I defintely don't want to breastfeed again, 2) I might wait a couple more years, then if I do it then I will have spent all that time getting more emotionally attached to him, believing we have a future and then we'll still split over the issue! 3) I'm not sure if we have a future together anyway, for other reasons.

Thanks for your help girls.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links. So I apologize in advance for the trouble if this breaks a rule. Here's a link to the US FDA's website and an article, as well as a CNN (one of the major news networks in the US) article...

This is an interesting one...

http://www.fjc.gov/BREIMLIT/SCIENCE/summary.htm

And this one is great, by the UK government appointed review group

http://www.silicone-review.gov.uk/index.htm

It specifically discusses cancer, breast feeding and tetrogenicity (harm to the unborn child). It states that silicone implants do NOT pose any of those risks. Might be what you're looking for ...

Good luck

Thanks so much Atomic, the second one is great because it is the UK government's independent review group and it states some fantastic conclusions and information (e.g. the rate of exposure to silicone of children of women with implants is the same as children of those without, since they get it in food, baby bottles etc) also the cancer thing - not a crumb of evidence! I'm so pleased he can't argue with that, can he? here's hoping! I'm getting my printer and highlighter pen out now!!

Hope this helps GOOD LUCK and do what ever YOU want to do not what someone else wants. My husband wanted to make sure it would be safe for us to have babies in the future too. I did a tone of research and talked about it with my PS. Information and facts are the key. I wish you the best.
