Question Capsular Contracture?

Although I havent had my BA yet im quite nervous about capsular contraction. Ive read about on this site and ive also googled it on my own. I realize that its common and can happen to many women after their BA. Im also aware that its not the plastic surgeon's fault but what would I do if this were to happen to me? Would i go back to the same plastic surgeon for him to fix? Would I have to pay? Im just curious incase (godforbid) this happens to me. Thanks girls!

I have it on my right side, although it is very mild. i am seeing the same surgeon for treatment, we're doing the vitamin E and accolate, so hopefully I won't have to have surgery. If I do, I would feel comfortable having him do the surgery. I haven't been charged so far for any of my follow-up visits, not sure about surgery though.

You need to discuss with your plastic surgeon what his/her policy is for any repairs/revisions, etc. before you go ahead with your surgery. You certainly have the right to know their policy. Actually, I don't think I would say that cc is a common complication. It's a possibility, of course, but not all that common.

Accolate is an allergy medication, I believe, that is sometimes presribed for cc, to help break up the capsule.

I know how stressful it is with all the risks and everything, i'm so nervous about it all too, but I think in the end it'll all be worth it! Good luck!

this is something i think we all fear in the back of our minds. Each surgeon has a different "policy" on complications and what is covered. Most are pretty reasonable though when it comes to helping treat them.

The plastic surgeon I'm going to has different methods he uses to try to avoid CC....for example, he wont place a silicone implant through a trans ax incision as, for some reason, this increases the chances....and I've read that CC tends to happen more often with silicone implants versus saline implants...but in the end, even with a great plastic surgeon, etc....it can still happen.....but I agree...its not necessarily a common occurence thing....it just happens to be the most common of the many complications that can occur...hope that makes sense....try not to worry....just be sure you know your plastic surgeon's policy before you let him do your surgery..

Lightbulb

Just a quick question does anyone know why getting silicone implants raises the risk of cc?:

CC is my biggest fear out of everything but I will still take the risk because its minimal and I want boobs no matter what. I am trying to reduce the risk as low as possible by having Silimed polyurethane foam covered implants, these reduce the cc risk to as low as 1%, has something to do with the way the capsule forms, it is totally different to how the capsule forms with the normal silicone or saline implants, textured or smooth ones. They have now been TGA approved and my Dr highly recommends them. Only prob they don't come in a wide variety of sizes. HTH.

I am fighting CC in my righty. I do not have a severe case, it is just more firm and a tad higher than the left. I am taking milk thistle, and other remedies along with doing compression and lots of massage daily. There are risks with implants and I knew that going into surgery. But for me it is still worth it! I can't imagine going back to being flat and droopy again!!

I agree though, ask your plastic surgeon what his/her policies are for revisions due to complications.

Hi Beth,
Hope you're well, I'm just wondering if it's worth taking milk thistle after BA as a preventative?
Many Thanks!

We have good info on CC right here on the main site: http://www.justbreastimplants.com/ri...ontracture.htm The link squak posted is filtered out by the word filter on the forum.

kath, you need to be doing what your plastic surgeon instructed if you trusted him enough to let him operate on you in the first place. So don't wear a compression bra unless he says it's fine.

I do! I figured it can't hurt. I was also taking vitamin E, but ran out. I was told that both of these also help your boobs get softer, but not to take them until at least two weeks after surgery. Ask your plastic surgeon first! My plastic surgeon put me on singulair (also an asthma medication) as a preventative measure for the first three months. That makes me rest a little easier.

Does anyone Know if over the counter Allergy medicines help, too?

My plastic surgeon did not prescribe Singulair or Accolate. She also instructed me to NOT massage. I want to do what I can to prevent CC. Does anyone know if Zyrtec or Claritan might help as much as Accolate or Singulair? Also, maybe I missed it, but what are compression exercises..is it massaging? I have to wear a compression surgical bra for 2 weeks..is that the same as compression exercises?

It is scary how we are told so many different thing by our plastic surgeon - You wear a bra, you dont wear a bra, massage - no massage. I am so confused. Thanks Ina for giving me that website. On the web site it says to wear a compression bra to prevent CC. I do trust my plastic surgeon and believe in what he tells me......but do I want to be that 1% that gets it, NO! So, what do I do?? Also, I am with jasmine, what are the compression exercises, massage??

Yes compression exercises are massage. Some are also instructed to do the compression exercises for example lying down on their stomach, sort of rolling over their breasts on the floor, or similar more heavy duty compression. But don't do it unless your plastic surgeon instructs you to.

Don't take OTC allergy medicines for nothing, they won't do any good. Singulair and Accolate are pretty heavy duty meds with strong effects on the body overall and they aren't given OTC.
