Hi,
Hope I've got the terminology right!! I had done a lot of reading about placement of implant and decided I liked the idea of partial unders (apart from the possiblity of extra pain and extended recovery time). However my surgeon says he would prefer to go over the muscle based on how my breasts are now - small, kind of perky, but have breastfed 3 children. He says my breast tissue is dense enough to give good coverage of the implant and he also thinks it will give the look I want - which is as natural as possible - i.e. no roundness above the nipple. I notice most of you on this site have partial unders or unders. Does anyone have any experience/stories about implants placed over the muscle? I'm getting 280cc anatomically shaped Mentor textured cohesive silicone gel. And this is happening next week so quick advice would be really appreciated!! Thank you ;-) |

Well, 1st i want to say good luck.
I have had overs and unders. If you are getting the cohesive 3 (gummy bear ananomicals. You should have the look you want. They are not available to us yet. I would have loved to have them. I will switch them out in the future if they come availabe in the us.. I like my overs, I have a slight clevage rippling, when i am braless and bend certain ways, but i have cohesive 1. It is not bad enough to worry about at this point. I like the fact that i can work out as normal, with out the distortion. Recovery is way easier. I have had unders and recovery is not fun. You have to do what you feel is right between you and your PS.. Everone likes a different look and is shaped differently..

Gemini,
I am 6 weeks post op with silicone overs. I went in to the Pre-op "discussion" appointment knowing I wanted to be a "D" ( Background: I was a small (perky too) but a little deflated from breastfeeding as well)) B, large A cup depending on the brand of bra)... But I wanted 1. to look natural, 2. to add fullness 3. to be about a D cup 4. I definitely wanted silicone gels. He explained that with my breast tissue, size and my goal of what I wanted that he agreed that silicone results are far superior, and that in my case OVERS would be the way to go. I was surprised, but when I looked at and talked with other girls who used him as their p/s, I decided to trust his expertise. BOY, was he RIGHT! like I said, at 6 weeks they are absolutely still amazing me at how they look right now! I absolutely love them, I don't feel "too big" (and I did 500 cc's!) It got me to a "D" and some bras a DD! But they really really match my body. I love them! To answer your question, I had a very very positive results with silicone gel overs. I have to take my 6 week pics , if you want to see the results, just shoot me a private message and when I upload them I'll let you know. I know its confusing but I'm sure whatever you decide to do will look great!

... Mary Jane, I've rung and asked at my surgeon's office about what type of cohesive gel it is so they're finding out for me today hopefully. We've been able to have silicone implants for years here and no one that I know of has ever got saline when there's a choice between the two. The funny thing is all our silicone implants have always been imported from the US.
I'm about 5'3" tall and weigh approx 140 pounds, am a small B cup (on a good day!) so I've always looked out of proportion. But I'm only getting 280s so will be a full C cup they've said - I know that will be enough for me!! My presurgical pack arrived this morning. I have to go and get a mammogram and bloods done in the next couple of days. It's all happening!! Can I ask how your recovery went for 'overs'? I'm planning to stay one night in hospital although I don't have to... but I'm a solo mum with 3 energetic boys so thought the peace and quiet would be good! Have got friends taking my boys for a couple of days for me. |

In my first reply post I meant to talk to Storm/Anne about the type of cohesive gel in the implants! And usually I'm quite intelligent but thinking about surgery has scrambled my brain! Sorry about that.

...Thanks for the info. I'm 41 so I'm not really worried about them sagging sooner as I'd look odd at 50 with really perky boobs anyway! My surgeon has told me I'm not to wear a bra for 2 weeks after the surgery. He advocates wearing nothing except a T-shirt as then they drop nicely into a natural look. He's supposed to be one of the better surgeons and does a lot of reconstructive/revision breast work so I'm putting my trust in him that he knows best. Everyone else I know was told to wear a sports bra after surgery so will be interesting to see what happens when I don't.
Did you find you recovered well after surgery with overs? |

I had to wear a sports bra 24/7 for 8 weeks post op...like you, I don't want perky boobs at 50, they wouldn't suit me..but I go braless each night in bed, I didn't get these done to be strapped up at night...I want freedom ! Yes, the recovery from overs was good, i had bp problems which hindered me, and not much actual pain or discomfort from the boobs, more to do with posture etc...always be aware that your back and neck and shoulders could ache, but ache bad ! A neck pillow that my daughter got me was a godsend x |
