Blood Testing

Okay so I went in for my pre-op an I was told I did not need a blood test. I don't smoke, drink, no know allergies, no meds except birth control etc. So you know I was like great no blood drawn!! Anywho today I was chatting it up with a friend and she was telling me about a girl in town who had a tummy tuck in Visalia and she died!!! She told me it was the docs fault cuz her blood was too thin and she should not have gone under. So I'm freakin out! I have no clue if I have thin blood or not. Oh okay someone kust told me the girl was on steroids and she had been internally bleeding already anywho. I feel better

You could always get your general doc to do annual bloodwork to ease your mind if you want. I liked the reassurance.

I have my pre-op tomorrow and I'm fully expecting them to take blood, but that's OK as I don't mind! I had a blood test last week for something else - at this rate I won't have any left for me LOL!

Im not very good with all this, but i was under the impression that all ops require a blood test, they need to know your hb level, they need to know ur blood group ...... I really dont want to worry you, but I think they should know these things, occasionally we may bleed more than usual, and then they have all their info....but, please dont panic, cos im prob talking crap..

Fashionknockout will become famous soon enough
I went for my pre-op a couple of weeks ago and my ps did not request any blood work either. I tought it was kind of strange but he has been doing this for like 30 years so I guess he knows best. He just asked me if I had any allergies and if I was otherwise healthy, that's all.

hey Hanna! the only blood they took from me a little poke on the finger for a quick check on my hemoglobin. i had to take a urine preg test. as long as you dont take any of the meds that they tell you not to take pre op then your blood wont be thinned.

I did not have any blood tests either.....

BUT the day of OP they will do a finger prick to test your hemoglobin... I wouldn;t worry about it though if you had other medical underlying conditions I am sure you;d know

I asked about the bloob work too. My nurse said that it wasn't necessary based on my medical history. She said all they had to do was get a urine sample the day of the surgery. I was kinda hesitant at first but many girls didn't get blood drawn either.

I'm having my pre-op done by my GP. The papers my PS sent me to take with me included History & Physical, EKG and CBC (blood). So it really depends on your PS. I would just trust what your PS says and not worry about it.

Nah... everyone I know who's ever had surgery has had blood testing. I wouldn't go into surgery without it personally. JMO, though!
