Question Time between consult & surgery?

How long did you have to wait between your consult and your scheduled BA? I have a consult this week and am anxious to find out how long I will have to wait.

I would assume it would be at least two weeks (?) since we have to be on a pre op "diet" (certain food must be avoid) for that long But your PS may have other ways of preparing his/her patients for BA- I'm sure you will find out soon
Good luck

"Diet"

I had my consult on Jan 29 and scheduled my BA for Feb 28. I could have got in sooner but had to wait as someone else is off in my department at work.

At my pre-op appointment, I was given a paper that has a list of medications and foods not to take 2 weeks prior to your surgery date.

SOME of the meds include: advil, aleve, alka-seltzer, fish oil, motrin, midol, lortab, and phentermine. This is b/c the drugs either contain aspirin or have undesirable effects that may affect your surgery (abnormal bleeding and bruising).

SOME of the foods include: almonds, apricots, berries, cherries, cucumbers, currants, curry, grapes, grape juice, jellies/preserves, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pickles, plums, prunes, raisins, tomatoes, tomato products, vinegar, and wine. This is b/c the foods contain salucylates, which affect blood clotting. They do not need to be omitted completely from your diet but should be kept to a minimum for 2 weeks before surgery.

I had my consult last week (Feb 12) and my BA is scheduled for March 15th. It appears that as long as your deemed healthy enough, it really only comes down to scheduling with your PS and when they have times available. March 15 was the next possible date my PS had available. Been waiting for years but since I paid my deposit to secure a date, it seems the next 26 days will seem just as long!!!

yep, she right.... ^^^ . they give you a list of what meds to not take two weeks before surgery... also to quite smoking cig two weeks before ... so normally I would agree that most PS give it two weeks between the consult date and surgery date. I saw my PS a weeks ago and my surgery date is in two weeks. ----- the waiting is the worst lol

My consult and my BA are about 1 1/2 months apart, but I asked for my specific week cause of spring break. However, another place I called said it would be at least 2 weeks between consult and surgery. My PS just sent a list of things to avoid two weeks prior. There was nothing whatsoever mentioned about foods to avoid. I'm going to ask my PS about food at my pre-op. Pretty much, I was told to avoid cigarettes, herbal supplements, and products containing aspirin. Tylenol is okay. I looked up if it is okay to have alcohol cause I like to have wine at least a few times per week w/my meals. Most docs seemed to think it was a good idea for patients to avoid it several days before surgery. Good luck!

I had my consult on a Wednesday and did my surgery a week and half later. It was a little crazy because of getting the pre surgical clearance and testing from my regular doctor and then the sonogram/mammogram in time. I'm glad I did it that way because if it was any longer, I definitely would have talked myself out of it.

mine was 6 days. I was already told prior to Pre-Op about what drinks & stuff to avoid....energy drinks, coffee, herbs & vitamins (like ginseng...I forgot the other ones...) keep myself hydrated with gatorade or lots of water...etc.
