Thumbs up nervous on gel

I'm having a hard time deciding saline or gel... is there anyone out there who would not recommend gel implants and why.

Do whatever you are comfy with. They will most likely need to be replaced at some point in your life and if like me, you were just too nervous to go with sils now, wait 10 years for replacement time and there will be tons of additional studies that can assure you that it is 100% good to go. Just my opinion...

Perhaps this will help. From BreastImplantSafety.org:

"Saline vs. Silicone: Advantages and Disadvantages
Saline implants, which were officially approved by the FDA in 2000, have some advantages and disadvantages over silicone breast implants which were FDA-approved November 17, 2006:

All implants carry a risk of rupture. If a saline implant leaks or breaks inside a woman’s body, the salt water is simply absorbed into her tissue.
The size of saline implants can be altered, depending on the aesthetic or physical needs of an implant recipient. This allows women to increase the size of their implants over time, after her skin has expanded. Or if a woman decides that her implanted breasts are bigger than she wanted, she can minimize their size. Saline implants feature small valves in which a doctor can insert a needle and either add or subtract the liquid. The size of silicone implants cannot be changed without actually changing the implant with an operation.
Some patients may find that saline implants do not offer a natural look and feel and that silicone mimics this more effectively.
However, saline implants carry many of the same risks as silicone gel-filled implants, including capsular contracture, infection, pain, and nerve damage. Implants, whether filled with saline or silicone, are not a lifetime device and may need to be replaced.

Advantages of Silicone Implants

Many surgeons and patients with breast implants have the opinion that silicone implants have a more natural look and feel than saline implants due to the fact that silicone gel has a texture similar to breast tissue.

Advantages of Saline Implants
Saline implants have some advantages over silicone implants. Silicone implant ruptures are harder to detect. When saline implants rupture, they deflate and the results are usually seen almost immediately. When silicone implants rupture, the breast often looks and feels the same because the silicone gel may leak into surrounding areas of the breast without a visible difference."

This is a decision only you can make. Here are some studies on silicone safety.

I started out with saline and had some complications and when i had my redo i changed to silicone.
For me, the difference was really night and day. My salines always felt like water balloons, (because really thats what they are), I could feel the implant bag and because they were so overfilled to prevent ripples (which i had anyway) they had a "hardness" to them and i wanted a really natural feel. The gels feel like real breast tissue, but youthful breast tissue, not thin saggy tissue.... There really is no compairison.
Having said that, you should be totally confident and comfortable with your decision. The gels are perfectly safe, and even if there is a rupture the silicone will not migrate anywhere in your body, but If you feel like you have a ticking time bomb in your chest, then it is not for you...

I got saline implants 14 months ago and have NEVER liked them. When women would say how much they love their new boobs I would think..."what is wrong with me, why don't I LOVE them?" OK, now I know.... I just switched to silicone and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I can't even put into words how much better they are. I felt like I was carrying around rocks for the past year and a half. Silicone allows for a more natural slope and feel. They are way more soft than I ever imagined, and they are only 2 1/2 days old. I think saline was forced onto the market because of the silicone scare, not because they are better. There are women who like their results with saline. They give women peace of mind and a wide array of sizes. Some women say their salines are soft.
I asked my OBGYN and she said she can always tell who has silicone and who has saline.
You may hear you cant tell the difference under the muscle between the two. FALSE. I have a B cup of my own tissue and I could still feel my rock hard salines. They are so much softer now I am thrilled. If you want to look and feel natural, GO WITH THE SILICONE!!!!! Good Luck!

Well, that sure makes us saline girls feel good........

Not trying to start any arguments, and you do have a right to state your feelings, but I get tired of saline-bashing sometimes. As I haven't had both, I can't honestly compare, all I can say is that my salines ARE soft, as soft as I could want them. I am happy you are thrilled with your sils. I am thrilled with my sals. Not going any further with this, just wanted to state my thoughts.

I am one of the gals who've had both, and I've had silicone twice. My original sils were a nightmare from the start. I developed severe cc in both breasts very early on, and lived with baseballs on my chest and snoopy boobs for 15 years. In 2002 I had a bilateral implant exchange to saline with capsule removal. My salines were super soft and jiggly for the first few years - almost too soft actually! Over the years though the left one became firm and moved up on my chest (cc Baker grade III) so last May I went in to have just that breast fixed. My ps went OVER for that one, so I had one over and one under. That didn't work out so well (extreme asymmetry) so in December I ended up having another implant exchange - both to silicone unders - and full anchor lift. My breasts feel and look wonderful now - soft, perky, full. In some earlier posts I said how much more I like silicone, but now I find myself wondering if I can truly separate out the fact that my breasts overall are much nicer now than they have ever been due to a number of things, the most significant being the lift, and not so much fill type.

My sister in law has BEAUTIFUL breasts with saline implants. They are the perfect shape, they're soft and squishy (I've felt 'em!), perky and she's had them for 5 years with not a single complication.

What I am trying to say is that results can vary greatly and may or may not have anything to do with them being saline or silicone (the most important decision BY FAR is choosing a skilled ps!!). There are individual cases where one may be recommended over another for a variety of reasons. In the end you have to make a choice based on your OWN needs and preferences (are you thin skinned, worried about rippling, have mammogram concerns, etc?). So weigh the pros and cons of each and make the decision that is best for you. Good luck!!

I am sorry that you were offended. I was replying to Sally who was wanting more information about silicone. Since I have had both, and favor silicone, I felt I could give her that information. That's what is great about this forum she can read all replies and can make the decision for herself, not just what one person says. I also mentioned the positives of saline. You should tell Sally what you like about yours and not worry what other people write. If you are happy with saline I think that is great, I know many that are too. Sorry again, I have been waiting for a year and a 1/2 to like my boobs and I finally do.

Like others have said, it is a very personal choice. You should talk to a PS who's had a chance to look at your breasts. If you have a decent amount of breast tissue, and are concerned about the safety of silicone then saline might be your way to go. If you have thin skin, very little breast tissue, and aren't worried about the silicone scare, then silicone might be for you. I have read posts from women that have both and love them I chose silicone for myself due to thin skin, little breast tissue, and I'm not too concerned about the sili scare (pun intended). Silicone was the right decision for me.
