Overs vs. Unders for Weight Lifters

I am getting a BA and lift in July. I'm concerned about whether to go with overs or unders because I also do a lot of weight lifting. I talked with the doctor about my concern and he recommends unders and said I should be fine with them. He said he would do either, though. I'm fairly confident with his opinion, but I don't want to be in my weight lifting class with some freakish chest movement that stands out for everyone. I'm also concerned that if I go with the unders because I might have to drop my weight quite a bit and I've worked hard for the muscle build. I know I want to go with saline vs. silicone and am concerned if I go with saline overs, I may avoid all of the movement, but will have weird rippling. Any thoughts from anyon else who does lots of weight lifting/strength training.

Read the recent post on "muscle flex deformity" and that should answer some of your questions. I personally, didn't do well with unders at all. I had a rare case in which I had to switch to overs. My PS has been in practice for a long time and I was his first patient to switch to overs because I didn't like the feel of the muscle flex. I think maybe my muscles were too tight and small. In fact, I had to stop all chest exercises because it made them even more uncomfortable. But, many many women do really well with unders and can still do everything they did before. I think it is just one of the risks that you take, just like any other risks with any surgery.

I have been on many forums because I didn't understand why my unders were so uncomfortable and flexed so badly, and I have only met a few women who switched to overs because of them. I had flex deformity just opening up a perscription bottle, jar, wiping down a counter.....I had it really bad all the time and I gave it a full year to see if it went away. Again, I think I was a rare case.

I have a friend who had hers done by the same PS and she was a football cheerleader and worked out all the time....and she loves her unders!

If you trust your PS and have told him about your weight lifting and said you should go with unders, then you should be just fine!

I hope this helps!

My sister's got unders and she is a fitness professional - she doesn't lift and compete but she lifts a lot, trains people, etc. She has no problem with them and has had no muscle flex deformity at all.

I lift a lot but I've got overs, so I can't help you much there...

I pole dance for fitness, so I lift my body weight when I exercise. My PS outright refused to do unders because of the risk of flex deformity. I also didn't have enough breast tissue for overs, so he recommended subfascial silicone, which is what I now have. I have a barely-perceptible movement when I flex, and no rippling/other distortion.
