Bad to take Clonazepam for anxiety within the few days prior to BA??

I'm nervous because I take a very low dose of clonazepam (klonopin) a few times a week when I cannot fall asleep. I took it last night (Mon) and my surgery is Thursday morning. I don't take the stuff every night and since it just occurred to me that this is most likely a contraindication ( I won't take it again before BA), I'm really mad at myself for not even thinking of it until now.

Does anyone know anything about this medication (it's an anti-anxiety med) and if the lowest dose on a Monday night will effect a surgery Thursday morning??? I can never get in touch with my Dr..... it's ALWAYS the receptionists who automatically say "no vitamins, no birth control, no alcohol, no NOTHING 2 weeks pre-op." That's what happened when I called to ask today. I was thinking that my extremely conservative doctor has just about everything on his list of what not to take so the girls just assume that's part of it.

I don't know if the stuff stays in my system that long (I don't think it does) but please- does anyone know at all????

ChicFashionista will become famous soon enough
Did you tell the receptionist that you had taken it? This is really a question for the doctor, and nothing anyone says here should be what you go on, since we're talking brain chemical-altering drugs here. I personally think it'll be totally ok since you just took one and it's a few days before your BA, but your PS has to know about it.

My PS recommended I take the Valium the night before surgery to help me get well-rested and keep from being too nervous. I think your doctor would be okay with it, but I'm not a doctor, and it's always worth checking to make sure.

You are fine!

Clonazepam is one of the medicines that Dr. Kim says is OK to take within 3 days of surgery. You do NOT have to stop taking it 2 weeks before like the others, just 3 days before. And, fwiw, my after care nurse wanted me to take it when I got out of surgery to "help relax the chest muscles", even though it's technically not a muscle relaxant.

So, don't worry, you haven't broken any of Dr. Kim's rules. Just don't take any more until after surgery and then talk to him about when you can start again at your post-up.

Good luck. You will love Dr. Kim. You are in such good hands... you really have nothing to worry about!

Thank you so much!!!!! Those girls at the front desk just say "no" automatically and it's so frustrating! I feel so much better, and as nervous as I am, thank you for reminding me that I'm in good hands.
