Areola (Nipple) Incision questions
I have been considering having the Areola incision instead of the Crease but would love to hear about your personal experiences.
*Can you breast feed? *Do you have sensitivity? (more or less) *How noticeable is the scaring? *Are you happy with your choice of incisions or would you rather of had another location for the incision? Thanks Ladies. |

I am very glad I did the peri/trans areolar incision for my BA. My PS actually made the incision right under my nipples to shorten my nipples at the same time as BA since they were stretched from breastfeeding. It has been 2.5 months since my surgery and I don't see any residual scarring. You can't even tell I had surgery done! I also have no sensitivity or loss post BA. I'm very happy with my results! Sorry I can't answer about breastfeeding post BA since I am finished with having kids.

My incision is thru the areola and no problems. the scarring is a minimal, barely noticeable. haven't had children yet so can't answer on the breast feeding question. but I honestly wouldn't of chose any other incision. just because of the small entry incision and I didn't want a crease scar. jmi, hth

Yes, you can still breastfeed.
I am only 11 days post-op and am not loving the incision site right now, to tell the truth. That may change in a few months once the scars heal. Apparently I don't heal as well as others, so I ended up with bruises on my breasts and my scars are pretty ugly right now, and don't look like other women's scars who were the same amount of time post-op. My PS (and the ladies) think that I will still end up healing well, but it will take longer. If so, great. But right now, I sort of wish that I had gotten another incision so that it would be more fun to look at my naked breast in the mirrror. My BF thinks that I am healing nicely, and the bruising is going away. I haven't shown him the scars yet (I kept tape on it) but if there's progress in some areas, hopefully there are in that area too! |

I had my BA done 17 days ago. I had the peri-areola incision done too. From what I have seen I'm healing nicely. I mainly chose this way because I have olive skin and my areolas are dark so the scar should just blend in. Also since my PS has me living in a bra and I just couldn't imagine something rubbing against a crease incision. One thing I am not happy about is I have hypersensitivity in my nipples. They are VERY sensitive. I don't think it's in relation to having it done this way though.
I have already breastfed my children and they were sensitive with that too. Once they are fully healed you should be able to breastfeed with no problems. You might want to ask your PS if he has any thoughts on that. Good luck... |

the sensitivity will get back to normal, i went from numb to supser sensitive once the stitches were out, then to normal. hang in there! i love these incisions, i may need a revision just bc i didnt heal as nicely on the 'corners' of one but the other you can barely even tell its there.

*Can you breast feed?
Afraid I can't help with this one... *Do you have sensitivity? (more or less) More, especially on my dominant side. Super sensitive and not in a fun way, but bearable. I'm only about 3 weeks out so can't say how long it will last although from what I am reading it's not forever! *How noticeable is the scaring? Mine do not look bad at all, am using Mederma on them. *Are you happy with your choice of incisions or would you rather of had another location for the incision? I am very happy I opted for this incision as opposed to the crease (my 2nd choice) |

I'm not sure about the breast feeding but i'm almost sure you can because my nipples are the same.. I did have hyper-sensitive nipples until about 2 weeks post op but I don't think it was because of the areola incision.. I've seen a few women on here that had sore nipples without the areola incision! My scar has healed really nicely and you can barely tell unless you get really close. At first I was scared of how my scars would look but i'm really glad I chose to go with this incision.. It's small and hardly noticeable once you're all healed up!

I am glad I went with the Areola Incision. You can barely see my incisions and I am only 3 Months PO. My nipples are back to Pre-BA sensitivity. Not sure about the breast feeding part.

I got TUBA and I can tell you that over-sensitive nipples can happen with any incision because my nipples have been like that as well since my BA.

I have the areola incision. At first I was really glad I had this incision. Really fade in well, but I'm still numb and don't have much feeling, which is really weird.
I went with the incision site my ps felt most comfortable with.

i am getting an areola incision as well and i am very confident with that choice bcuz my PS is confident with it. the way he and the nurse explained it to me is that bcuz i am getting cohesive gels that if i were to have crease incision the scaring would be a lot larger and he feels that he is not doing the surgery "blind" due to not being able to see the top part of my muscle near the top of my breast plate. He feels that through the areola is a very centralized spot that allows him full range of my pectoral muscle and he can make sure that the pocket he is making is symetrical and that the implant is sitting in a proper location.

Hey there hun. I am 5 weeks post op and I am so glad that I had the aroela incision. I still have scaring but it is not very noticable. I have no children and never will be able to so I am unaware of the breast feeding question. Maybe that is a good question for your PS. Sensativity... it is coming back slowly but my PS said it could take up to six months to have all of the sensativity back to normal. Good luck and I hope everyone's feedback has helped. Congrats as well! You will love your new boobies I'm sure

I chose areola incision as well, and so far I'm happy with the outcome. The scar on my left breast doesn't show at all. My right breast is ok but not perfect because my surgeon didn't follow the areola line exactly (it dips down below it which I'm not too happy about). I did have extreme sensitivity for a while after surgery, but it's completely gone now. As far as breast feeding goes, I don't know from personal experience but my mom had an areola incision also and she breast fed my sister and I with no problems. HTH

My experience...
Quote:
*Before my BA I could have cared less if my nipples were played with because I really had no sensitivity and it didn't do anything for me. Now, I have alot of sensitivity...but in a very good way. I never lost any feeling!! *My scaring at first scared me! I thought it was always going to be visible. Now, at almost 7 mos., I don't see it unless I really look for it. Otherwise, people who I have shown looked right at my breasts and asked what incision I got...obviously they couldn't see mine. *I am extremely happy that I chose this incision.
