If you have silicone cohesive gels -

Hi ladies - -

I am almost 41, and have wanted a breast augmentation for forever.
I am 5'7", about 115-117 and a 36A.
I have a 31 inch ribcage. I am pretty narrow and have very
thin skin - I say this because rippling is a BIG concern for me even with under the muscle implants. So I am pretty sure I want silicone - since with saline I am almost guaranteed to ripple.

For those with silicone - how big was your incision and where? ALL PSs I consulted with do crease incisions- one said a one inch incision for saline and THREE for silicone. Others said one for saline and about 1.5 to 1.75 for silicone

Do you have any rippling with your silicones?

I began consulting 2 weeks ago and have had FOUR very different consults. I am now quite confused.

My first 3 PS consults all offered saline or silicone. Most estimated about 300-320ccs for me and no more. No one wants to go more then 2 cup sizes at most on me - and I dont want more then that anyway! I am looking to be a large B or small C.

Tonight I had my fourth consult with a well know surgeon in my area who comes highly recommended by my gyno and he does a ton of breast reconstruction and breast augmentation surgery. He ONLY recommends silicone for me - said no way to saline for me. He will not say what style/size he will give me - as in high profile or moderate. (First 2 said definitely high profile, round, smooth for me, third said moderate, round.) He said he would probably go with a large B for me - anything larger is going to stick out on the sides and look ridiculous on me - he said silicone will GREATLY reduce the rippling that is just about guaranteed on someone with my body. He said saline ruptures more - and silicone has more incidents of CC, but it not that big a risk and for the look I will achieve worth it.

I really think this man knows his stuff, saw his before and afters AND his price for silicone is the SAME as the saline surgery fees quoted by a few of the others.

I know Dr. Berlet is raved about by a few on here and other boards - I have not gone to him. He is not exactly close to me (I am near Paramus New Jersey) and he has no evening appointments, and I hate to take half a day from work just for another consult. I am reading that he is doing saline on patients BUT maybe those he used saline on had thicker tissue then I do and thus the implant would be covered more.

I am soooo confused. I know silicone implants should have an MRI after 3 yrs and then one every 2 thereafter tho I have read that is just a precaution and not necessarily a must - a lot of women who got silicone before the FDA regulations do not get MRIs.

Anyway - just wanted to introduce myself. I have a 2nd consult tomorrow with one of the surgeons I also really liked, and he would do HP salines on me - ofcourse under muscle - about 300-320ccs.

I was hoping to book my surgery for February but time is running out for that as these guys all book up.

i have silicone unders and started off with very little breast tissue, i was told at one of my consults i would get rippling with 420cc (which is wat size i was going to get), cos my skin would be thin. i ended up going 385cc and was expecting to get it but havent so far... to avoid rippling it is best to go under the muscle and smooth silicone, but even if you get this you may stil get it. good luck with everything!xo

I'm 5'7, 130lb and i have a 30' rib cage...

I have high profile silicone unders and i have the crease incision. I have textured implants so my incision needed to be larger than for smooth implants. Originally my incision was about 4-5cm long but at one month it has shrunk down to about an inch long, pale pink and not really noticable. You won't get any rippling with silicone.

The new types of silicone are not like the old ones.. your PS may have shown you one cut in half... it just all stays there. This drastically reduces any risk of silicone going thru your body and requiring you to get a MRI to detect it.

Rachael

btw what type of dog do you have??

You can see my stats below, and I just got my steri strips off today and my incisions are both exactly 1.5". They are already thin lines and are not noticeable at all, and im only 2 weeks out!! I too am very thin and with the silicone I cant even tell I have implants!! It's amazing how natural they feel, you really can't tell where the implant begins and I end!!

I have round cohesive gel implants with crease incision... You can get it done through areola as well but it's apparently a lot harder. I have pretty big implants so my implants are 5" wide, and my scars are a bit less than 2 1/2 inches. This is my scar at two weeks, it's still very red of course since it's that fresh but it's not nearly as bad as I imagined. My PS placed it pretty far onto the side of the breast so even at this point when I stand up straight in normal room lighting you can not see the scars at all from the natural creases and shadows. I honestly expected worse.

And yea MRI is really just a precaution, I hear you can also detect silent ruptures of the implants via ultrasound if you go to a practitioner experienced with breast implants. I have no plans on going to an ultrasound or MRI unless I start getting symptoms - if I rupture and get no symptoms I'd rather not know I have a ruptured implant in me at all. I'd just stress about it for what I consider not a risk unless there's symptoms like pains.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide. Hope this helped some!

Hi and welcome...I have textured cogels overs, crease incision...the scar is just under 2" and it fades pretty quick, although im a bugger for not using bio oil...I had HPs with very little breast tissue, what i did have was at the bottom...im 31" ribcage also...i got 290cc... getting text silicones does not guarantee no rippling, i felt a bit of rippling quite a few weeks ago laying on my side, but cant seem to feel it after that, it may come back, or it may be a certain position i was in...if you dont go too large, you wont even tell you have implants, mine fall to the side when i lay down (which is what i wanted) and from side view standing up you cant tell i have implants, well from any angle...the highness goes pretty quick as they drop a little, giving a very natural, but full look, with projection....hope that helps x

Textured silicones are far likelier to cause rippling than smooth silicones though. It's called traction rippling and it happens when the textures surface is attached to the surrounding tissues and the implants themselves still adjust position, like drop a little or so.

I don't think we have anyone on the forum who's had rippling with smooth silicone implants, or if there is someone at least they didn't vote on my rippling poll a while ago

Im 2 weeks post breast augmentation and I had Co Gel unders, they feel soft to touch already and day by day they look and feel more natural. Im really really pleased with them.

They do say unders take a little longer than over to heal but Ive read that the % for cc and rippling are far less, not sure how true this is but its what others have written...

Good luck on finding whats right for you, do as much research as you can and start doing rice test etc so you know exactly what size you want. My PS said originally that 290cc would be fine for me cause thats what i asked for (excited at seeing something there after so long without them) I requested 380 on the day of my op and thats what I got, he said it would give me a full C/baby D size. Finger crossed thats what I got.

Ribcage 31". 5ft 4ins, 145lbs!!

hi and welcome

i am shorter than you but we have exact same pre breast augmentation measurements and both have a 31 inch rib cage. we also both have very little skin [for that read no boobies pre breast augmentation ]

i have 360 cogel overs and because i had even less skin on lefty than i do on right, i have very slight ripples in lefty cleavage. however as time went by even those ripples seem to be going. they could never really be seen but could be felt. these days they can hardly be felt at all.

my PS had suggested 320 or 360 max for the amount of breast tissue i have. i went for 360 because i wanted a big C or a D. i got exactly that and i'm very please
good luck

Wow - thanks for all the great feedback ladies - super helpful! (I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback - she is a sweet, beautiful dog.)

I am heading back for my 2nd consult today regarding size and saline with the 2nd PS I met and really liked. He will give me silicone - tho I know he will price out higher then the guy last night, because he already gave me a price for saline and it was the same as the man last night.

I plan to discuss with him just what the PS said last night. One big difference is the man last night said the silicone incision would be under 2 inches and the PS tonight said it would be 3 inches and he refuses to squeeze the implant into my incision.

I never dreamed this decision would be so hard, keep you posted.

Thanks!! But they don't just measure ribcage. Well it is also the shape of your ribcage, it is the size of your current breasts, it is the measurement of the side of your breast into the center of your sternum, it is the measurement in length - from the top of your breast area to the bottom - lots of factures. Not all 31 inch ribbed 36A women are the same. And putting similiar size cc's in to both could be a disaster for some. There is NO WAY I could ever handle 360s - I would be enormous and not in proportion with the rest of my body. I respect some women wanting to go really large but for someone my size it would only further increase rippling plus not achieve the more natural look I am going for.

I agree with Momercize. I got the anatomical so I would have more fullness at the top. He said the cohesive gels were good for me because of being thin and having thin skin. He said the saline on me would probably ripple. Everything is still settling but so far I think they look really good. I am also in the study for 10 years.

I do have rippling- I can feel it but you cannot see it.

It doesn't bother me in the least bit. I expected it since I have very little breast tissue and went with a pretty big implant.

I have NO breast tissue of my own - (think man-chest), and I got smooth silicone unders 400's. You can't tell they are implants at all - I ended up with a very natural shape. No rippling from any angle. My incisions are about and inch and 3/4 around my areola. He just squeezed the implant in. My breasts are still very perky and I would not be able to hide a crease incision as my breasts hardly fold over the crease.

Hi! I have textured cohesive silicone gels over the muscle, 340cc's, and I have rippling when I bend over around the edges of my implants. I was a 34A pre-breast augmentation as well, I don't have much breast tissue so not sure if that has to do with it at all. I have one very noticeable crease now, you can see it from side views and definitely feel it, because I have CC on one side now, it squeezes the implant and wrinkles it some. As far as the scar, it is in the crease as well and it is about 2" long, maybe a little less. I saw a different PS about 2 years after my first breast augmentation and he said that you could tell that my original PS tried to make the incision smaller but couldn't and had to cut the scar larger to fit the implant in. Hope this helps some!

I have textured cohesive gel implants and they do ripple when i bend forwards but it is not visible, I can just feel it through the skin. I got the soft touch ones though so I dont know if that makes a difference to the firmer cohesive gels.

My PS recommended silicone for me because I am so thin and had very little breast tissue. I got the crease incision, I don't think mine are more than 2 inches, they're 1.something. I haven't discovered any rippling (thank goodness!) because I've even lost a little weight since my surgery.

Hi and welcome! I live in Pearl River NY and used Dr. Fiorillo - I hope you have seen him. He did a wonderful job with my breast augmentation I couldn't be happier! I am shorter and fuller than you (5'4" 125 lbs) and also had a bit of breast tissue to start with (34B). I have 325 HP silicone, my incisions are looking great after only 3 months....Good luck with your decision!!
