Question new and unsure

Hello,

I've wanted implants for many years and I finaly went for a consult last week. Going there, I thought I was 100% sure but after reading the literature the PA gave me, I became fearful from all teh risks. My biggest comcern is not being able to breastfeed my future children. My boyfriend was very against it until I told him how self-consious I am. He supports me now but thinks people at work will talk about me. I am 30, 5'6, 120lbs and a very small frame. The doctor said she wouldn't go past a full B. Since I've worn padded bras, I don't think anyone will notice that much because I dress conservatively. Any advice would be so helpful....

Welcome, Bridget! You have lots of company!

We all go through the back and forth about whether it's worth the risks, and often take years to decide. I took 7 years to decide, from my first consult with a PS to my actual breast augmentation. Remember that the mfr literature is designed to protect them from lawsuits, not REALLY to educate you. The risks are real, and you need to be psychologically and financially able to deal with them if they happen, but most of us don't have complications and feel hugely better about ourselves afterwards.

We all go through the bf or dh having feelings and opinions, some for, some against. In the end you do it for you, and his opinion is irrelevant. When they love you, they do grow to love your new boobs. But it is helpful to get ideas about how to address his concerns. There's a poll in the poll section of this forum about women's bf's/dh's feelings about their BAs before and then after -- check it out.

We all go through worrying that people will notice and talk about us. We all go through thinking we want just a small increase so no one will notice, and then thinking maybe we should get the size we really want to be, and everyone finds what's best for them. How big do you think you'd want to be if you'd grown them yourself? What are your stats?

We're here for you whether you decide to get a breast augmentation or not. Post your worries and you'll get lots of support and information to help you. BTW, I believe you can breastfeed afterwards.

Hi Bridget and welcome...firstly, as far as I am aware, you can breastfeed normally after a breast augmentation..the possibility of complications is rarish but it certainly is one to consider..if the need/want for implants far outweighs your concerns then I say go ahead, but if you are in any doubt, I would research some more, and wait until you are 100% sure....As for work, I went from A to D and I honestly tell you that if I dont want people to notice, they are so easy to play down, but if Im out for the night, or not caring who notices, I so can make them notice....this is a very important decision for you to make, but please be sure you are doing it for you...for all your needs/wants... otherwise it is not worth it...good luck, the girls here will really help and support you whatever you eventually decide x

Hi Bridget and WELCOME!!
Having a breast augmentation doesn't mean you won't be able to breast feed in the future. From what I have read, the chances of having any issues with breast feeding after a breast augmentation are not very high, and are even less with the crease incision. Of course, there is always that chance...and you just have decide if you're willing to take it.
I always ask myself how much risk am I willing to assume? Being someone that doesn't shy away from risky things, I'm not overly concerned about all of the risks and complications.
As long as you choose a good PS it shouldn't be something to be too worried about.
Good luck in making your decision...I know it's a hard one!

Have you thought about going to other consults with other doctors? Why won't the ps go past a B? Are you sure that's all that you would want?

As far as breastfeeding, you should be fine. When I went to breast feeding classes when pregnant, even they said implants would not effect things.

Keep researching and looking around. The more info you have, the easier the decision will be.

Hi, Bridget. It definitely is a huge decision, isn't it ? Not something you go into lightly. Take as much time as you need to feel comfortable with this. This forum is the best place I've found for information on any and all questions. Hope you stick around.

Many women are able to breastfeed just fine after a breast augmentation. It is reduction that causes a 10-15%.

IMO, you are tall and could carry at least a full C without too much problem. Think about all the money and recovery time you are having. Most ladies that get a breast augmentation go at least 2 bra sizes bigger.

I'm 5'2" and 117 pounds. I got 330cc unders which is not a lot in the world the breast augmentation world. I have boobs when I want them and can totally cover them up when needed or want. I look natural, like I grew them on my own.

Try on sizers at your ps office. Bring in tight shirts, regular day shirts, and loose sweaters/shirts.

I am the exact same frame as you if you notice my siggy. You must have a very conservative surgeon! I am hoping to make it to a full c, baby d and that was also my requesting my surgeon to make me look very natural and he did not seem to think it would be a problem! The only thing I would think would be holding your ps back from wanting to go larger is if you have absolutely no breast tissue there and it would make you look like you had oranges on your chest if you went too big, kwim? If you want to go bigger, I think you could (of course I'm not a doctor)!!! I have already had children (no more for me!! yay!) but know plenty of women who have had no problems with pregnancy or breastfeeding their kids while implanted. It would be very easy to hide your new boobies especially if you only shoot for a B, and already wear padded bras. Also, there are risks yes, but I think the majority of women who have the surgery are willing to accept the risks (which are very rare in most cases) to have boobs and self esteem they never had before. It is a choice all your own. This site has proven to me to be very informative and supportive too! Welcome and good luck with your decision!

Hi Bridget....no doubt the risks r scary and I know no matter how well u plan everything and choose a great ps things might still go wrong but not always...there r also many many many success stories...I couldn't be happier.
I hear that some women r able to breast feed and some women arent after breast augmentation, my girlfriend couldn't breast feed after her breast augmentation and she has had three beautiful children who r perfectly normal and very healthy. I know that if u want to breast feed it can be a big issue but ask ur ps more about it. I waited after I had my kids to have my breast augmentation. I am smaller than you at 5'6 112lbs and I have 325cc implants, they bring me to a full C small D and I don't think it looks obscene...it looks normal and not big at all (I was very specific to my ps that I wanted to be taken seriously and not have huge boobs that looked unnatural).....make sure you get the right size...we wouldn't want you to get boob greed...It's very popular from what I read.
I am sure you will make the right and informed decisions. Be well and lots of luck.

Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that I was worried about people noticing also. Luckily though, I think it's worked out well and it helps that I didn't go too big (it's NOT a waste to go up just one size). I used to pad as well and now I just use non-padded bras and I probably look close to the same. Only now I have a nice slope on my breast as opposed to the very visible line of where the padded bra would stop! Haha.

Keep thinking about things and make sure you're ready for it. The risk of breastfeeding was huge for me since I really want to do that in the future. But I had to come to terms with how I'd feel if I somehow couldn't breast feed. And I decided it would be okay because there are plenty of women out there without implants who still can't breastfeed. So it's still a possibility anyway! I'll just hope for the best!

PS - I had read somewhere during my research that implanted boobs are sometimes easier for the babies to latch onto (as opposed to flat boobs). I don't remember where I read that though... sorry!

Welcome to the forum, Bridget!

Stick around and ask lots of questions. Make sure to see the main site as well, justbreastimplants.com. I think you should go on several consultations before making a decision on a PS. Personally, *I* would not have a breast augmentation just to go up to a B cup. That won't be a noticeable size change, especially in clothing.
