Cost of complications ..."free"???

Hey guys...

I hear some of you talking about the cost of complications really adding up. I have been to two consultations so far, and each time I asked the PS how much money I should set aside in case I run into problems. Both of them made it seem like things would be covered and I wouldn't have to pay anything. I thought this was really weird. It would not have turned me away if they said "set aside a few thousand just to be safe." Why would they make it seem like I wouldn't have to pay a cent after my initial breast augmentation?

I live in Ontario Canada. Are complications covered here, or are they not being honest with me? If other Canadians could respond I'd be greatful!

From what I understand with my PS HIS fees would be covered but not the surgery center or anesthesia fees. I guess everyone is different!

I wonder why they seem unable to say this. I get the feeling that they are worried about scaring me off, but it would do the opposite. I'd feel more confident knowing what I had to pay for and what I didn't. I KNOW it's not all free free, so I don't know why the seem to want to give me this impression. If my PS has said what yours did, I would have been a happy camper. Instead I just feel suspicious.

Mine said the same thing about not having to pay for any repairs and it had me worried at first almost like he expected something to go wrong. Then he explained if there were any complications or if afterwords he felt like something didn't turn out correctly why should I have to pay for something I had no control over. That was his theory.

I don't blame you! It could be b/c he doesn't want you to think that something is going to go wrong. My PS was very honest and upfront and told me that my tissue was pretty lax to start out with but he was going to do everything in his power to make sure I was pleased with the end result. I felt much better after that and knock on wood, so far everything has gone fine.

I was told the same thing. It would be covered under OHIP if something goes wrong. I told my PS how surprised I was to hear that.

I don't know about you other ladies but here in Canada, we are able to claim whatever we pay doctors on our taxes. Even for a surgery you don't need but want. I was really surprised to hear that as well.

I'm in the States and nothing is free, but my PS did say that if I developed an infection or hematoma she and her anesthesiologist would not charge me to go back and repair the damage. I thought that was really nice of her. Chances of either of those happening are slim, but if it did it was encouraging to know that it would be covered. I think good PSs stand behind their work and want you to be healthy and wouldn't want to charge you for something out of your control and that could make you sick.

Not to steal the thread here but does this mean if I went to Ontario for my breast augmentation (but I live in manitoba) my complication costs would be free? Or do I have to LIVE in ontario too? Or is this true for all of Canada? I'm lost lol

I would think it would be the same across the country. I could be wrong though.

I live in the states and my PS said that with my mentor warranty, I would not have to pay for complications if my implant ruptured, if it was a complication due to something other than a rupture I would have to pay $200, which is not bad IMHO

Wow. I wonder if they'd give me this in writing them. It just feels too good to be true. I pay initially, but if anything goes wrong...no problem, it's covered? Has anyone in Canada had to pay for a redo due to complications? I would be really angry if they tell me this and then I find out after the fact that I need to shell over money for something. By then it would be too late. You're stuck if you get a complication and need help.

Anyway...cool! Good to know I'm not the only one being told this!

I was told the same thing, he would wave his fee, but the surgery center and anesthesia would not be. My thing is, if you are not comfortable with your PS...I STRONGLY RECOMMEND getting another one. I need a redo, and even if the fees are waived to a point, would you really want the same doctor to do it again and possibly mess up again?

IDk about Canada, but my PS also said that all complications would be solved for free if they had smth to do with the operating process
