![]() | My ba is today... and this "no water" thing is killing me
So I'm T Minus 8 hours away from my surgery and I am dutifully obliging by the ps's "no food or drink after midnight" rule but... they need me to take a pregnancy test when I get there at 3:15 (standard procedure). How can they expect me to have any urine to test with if I haven't had a drink in 15 hours?? Im already so bad at urine tests (I can never go under pressure!) and that's when I chug a glass of water beforehand. So is it way wrong to cheat and drink a little something? Or should I just hold it the next time I have to go (which could mean holding it for HOURS)? On top of everything, I'm expecting to get my period today! Gahhh today is going to be just awful :P |

I would say go along w/their suggestion and avoid water. You don't want something such as that to cause them to not go through w/your surgery today. I just say try your best at holding it and if nothing else call them and explain the situation. Best of luck to you today!

![]() | I wouldn´t recommend cheating (although I have been guilty and once ate a chocolate bar before a surgery) but ssshhhhhh - dont tell anyone will you! When you really, really, really cant go without drinking- then try sucking on an icecube.... I believe its the fluid in your stomach that can cause issues should you feel nauseas during the op or after (please dont quote me on this though) .. Good Luck with your surgery and wishing you the best! ![]() |

I would definitely follow your doctor's orders. I have a friend, who's puppy just had surgery. She told the folks at the vet to watch the pup, so she wouldn't eat her poo...sorry I know this is gross. They didn't...the dog ate her excrement and then aspirated it through her nose during surgery. Needless to say the vet was quite shocked about that. Now the puppy is on antibiotics. Moral of the story...it's not a good idea to eat or drink anything before surgery! |

I was very thirsty too pre-op and I broke down and drank half a glass of club soda I just couldn't take it anymore. I figured it would be ok because they perform surgery in emergency situations on people who have not had time to fast. But don't follow my advice I still suggest skipping eating and drinking until post-op. It sucked for me becaue they wouldn't allow me to drink anything in recovery until I left the surgical center it almost killed me.

Jojo625, I completely understand where you are coming from!!!!!!! I insisted that my PS put me as the first appointment of the day. I told him I would dye if I went past 9:00 a.m. without eating or drinking. I have a self diagnosed water addiction. LOL. I would say a sip of water is fine.

I agree with the other ladies, I'd follow the instructions. There's a reason behind 'em. I was the same way before my breast augmentation last week, so I know how annoying it can be. Good luck today!!

My surgery was at 1:30 and they told me I couldnt eat or drink after 5:30 AM. I couldnt make it... I had a drink at 9:00 AM. Just a sip is all I needed. I did fine through surgery, thank goodness. Next surgery I have I am getting the first appointment of the day.
