Time needed to heal...honest opinions please!

Ok, what do you think...HONEST opinions.

Being that I want nice boobies by next summer I was thinking getting them done in May which may not yield ideal results til the end of summer, right?

So, next semester (as in the one that goes Jan-May), I have a week off for Spring break at the end of March. Since I only have classes Mon and Wed. I am thinking I may be able to get away with missing the Wed class prior to Spring break...maybe get my surgery that Tues or Wed., then have the rest of that week, and the following week for recovery...I can always pretend to have a back ache at clinicals and say I can't lift that first week back to class, right?

What do you think? Is that being TOO optimistic? The good news for me is my MIL is retired (for the most part) and I think if my hubby takes off the day of surgery and the rest of the week, then I'll be ok the following week with the kids or ask MIL to come over and help me.

Do you think this is realistic, especially those who've gotten their breast augmentation?

I think everyone recovers at different rates. Im on day 3 and not in much pain, just really drowsy. I only took off Friday for the surgery and sat/sun, and Im going back to work on Monday. Not that I would recommend that, but I don't really have a choice, just trying to get as much rest as possible until work tomorrow. I would think the week of spring break would be sufficient.

I don't have advice, just sympathy. I'm in the same boat. I'm a teacher, and already know I'll have a really full calendar next summer so I'm going to try to get my breast augmentation during Christmas break. I really hope 2 weeks home is long enough, assuming I can get it done early on in the break.

I think you would be fine. I had my surgery on a Friday and was back at work for a half day on Monday and a full day on Tues. I didn't feel very good for about a week so that would have been more ideal but I didn't have that option. How old are your kids? Mine are 4 and 8 and by day 3-4 I was fine taking care of them (not picking up of course). Good luck!

I agree with Ashley. You should be fine in that amount of time. You just won't want to pick up anything heavy.

I think you'll be ok with almost 2 weeks to recover, just be really careful with lifting and take it easy.

It really depends, every body is different.
You may recover either fast or slow but, you may also consider "just in case" as well. To be on the safer side, I'd say 3 weeks.

I had my breast augmentation/bl done on Tuesday and am going back to work on Monday, I think a week would be fine as long as you really take it easy! I'm post op day 5 and really not that sore, just kinda tired. Good Luck!

I think that sounds like a good plan. I would go ahead and start planning my "back to school" clothes for post breast augmentation. Lots of hoodies perhaps? Sounds like you are trying to hide them so I think that'd be your best bet.

That sounds realistic... DH was home with me & the kids for the first week, but back to work the 2nd... I was totally fine, although I did not lift my son unless it was absolutely necessary AND he was cooperative - ie. no tantrums, etc. By the end of the 2nd week, I was more comfortable all around - driving, cooking all the meals, etc. I'm only on day 12 now, still getting tired easily and have some low grade backaches by the end of the day (compensating for the girls/incisions causing tension).

It would be nice to have your new body by swimsuit season! Hope it all works out for your!

When you say clinicals do you mean nursing school clinicals? I am a nursing student and if your school is like mine I would not chance it. I had my breast augmentation 2 weeks after school ended in May and I enjoyed the summer. What if you have a complication, wont you have to withdraw from the semester? In my area 1000 ppl apply for the 100 seats in my program...I wouldnt chance it, even though everything will most likely be ok, only you can decide if it is worth it. My PS said no lifting or using chest muscles, which includes most of what you do as a nursing student (carrying heavy books, patient care, lifting up on high shelves) Good Luck!

Oh, my kids are 2.5 (dd) and 10 months (ds). So, in March/April, they'd be 3 and 1.5 years old. Honestly, my 2.5 year old is the needy one, not the baby!

lynn80, Yes, it's nursing clinicals. Ours are once a week. I'm not exactly sure what the third semester will entail. I will definitely ask the PS's I see at the consult their opinions...if they say it's a no-go, then I will definitely wait til May.

As for hiding it...yeah, I guess...I mean I'm not going HUGE or anything...I wear super padded bras right now/or even some nice chicken cutlet thingy's(lovely, right!), So, I'm not imagining that my changes are going to be SUPER obvious! I tend to dress down for class anyways, ie, jeans and a sweater, so me in hoodies for a few weeks isn't anything odd!!

AHHH, I'm just soooo antsy for it to happen. I wish I could do it NOW!

Thanks everyone!

I am a Reg Nurse, and I am 6 weeks postop.I went back to work at 10 days.Big mistake.I ended up taking a total of 3 weeks off.I didn't injure myself, but you don't realize how much you use your chest muscles for everything.I was so sore.I couldn't work my full 12 hour shifts until 4 weeks.I feel great now.I am able to do everything as before.I didn't start feeling like myself until week 5.There is no "ideal" time to do this.Unless you don't work and don't have small children.Best Luck

I remember that feeling! I always wore padded too, but what I didn't account for was how high up they sat... and then the seams of the sports bra showed through my clothes. I obviously "didn't look right". Maybe I was just very self conscious???? Either way, in most of my work clothes I just looked odd... just something to keep in mind sweetie
