![]() | opening the pocket
Does anyone know if reallly matters how the pocket is opened? One of the ps says he comes in from the armpit side or outside in and down. The other one I saw just goes in from the bottom. Any opinions out there on this? Also do you think it matters if they use a tool or finger? Kinda gross huh? Paige amanda |

Well, some say blunt dissection causes less trauma to the tissues, but there's as much debate about that as the whole overs vs. unders, saline vs. silicone thing! My PS likes to create the pocket through the crease (most patients here have a crease incision due to almost exclusive use of silicone/cohesive gels here in Australia) because he says it's the clearest place to dissect a pocket from - the best place to get good access and create a symmetrical pocket. He does offer through the armpit as well, though. I think the more pressing issue through the armpit is that the nerves that are attached to the nipple are mainly from the sides of the breasts, so there is a higher chance of damaging those, but I'm NO PS!!!! I just read that somewhere. |

Thanks so much for the response. One of the ps suggest going through the crease, as less cutting of tissue occurs and opening the pocket that way. The other ps i saw goes through the aeriola and opens the pocket from the top side. So just wondering how they compare. I haven't googled yet. I think I would rather have the pocket opened with an instrument so i guess thats something to discuss with whoever I end using to my breast augmentation.

The tool they use for the blunt dissection is very similar in size to a finger - and rounded like a finger, so I suppose some prefer to do that. A girlfriend of mine is an OR nurse to a PS, and she says most prefer to use the tool as it's really quite tough to dissect those tissues! It's quite hard to do it with a finger, but if the doc gets the best result that way, I expect they'll choose that over using surgical tools? I actually don't know how my PS dissects, but I can say he creates a lovely pocket! And that's a HUGE part of a great breast augmentation result. I wonder what the PS's here would say if you asked them? |
