Draining a Hematoma

Today was a bad day. I went to see my plastic surgeon after my beautiful 2 week old implant swelled up and got big and hard in a metter of minutes. Turns out I have a hematoma. I am scheduled for surgery again later this week. WHY MEE!!!

The funny thing is, while they scheduled the surgery, they did not mention anything about cost? Does that mean I won't be charged for anything. He does have to remove the implant and drain the blood? I haven't asked about cost but is there a likelihood that they will just do the surgery and stick me with a huge bill later?

Also, I am wondering how this will heal. Will I basically be at ground zero again with this breast? Before this happened it was falling into place nicely and the swelling was almost all gone.

I had the same thing happen to me 10 yrs ago w/ my first breast augmentation. My insurance covered it because it was considered an emergency...not cosmetic. The good thing was that my PS had priveleges at the hospital (the procedure was done at a Sugery Center) and was able to fix the problem himself. If you are having this done at a surgery center, I'm assuming there would be a fee- mine would have cost $$$ had I not used my own insurance/hospital. Most likely there is nothing wrong with the implant. Any pocket that has been formed will stay intact. My hematoma was right behind my nipple and swelled so big and was so painful I could barely breathe. After the drainage you should pick up where you left off. Good luck to you and I hope you heal quickly!!

My PS fixed my hematoma totally without cost. He told me that after I recovered from anesthesia I would feel about like I did before (not back to square one on healing) and he was right. In fact, my hematoma side healed faster than the other side, go figure!

I had the same thing happen to my 11days post op on my left side. scary stuff. I was not charged anything though and as far as taking the implant out, it just depends where you're bleeding from. when they opened me up they saw where I was bleeding right away so they were able to stop the bleeding and drain me without removing the implant. recovery afterwards is not as bad as after your initial surgery. you have to take the same precautions, no lifting etc. and you may or may not need pain meds. you'll prob have a lot of bruising and some of your breast may still feel a little hard and strange at first but it heals pretty fast. the scariest part is when you first discover your boob swelling and aching. so the worst part's over for u
good luck, it'll all work out fine.
