Drains?

Hi! Just curious why some girls have the drains and some don't. I never had the drains so wondering what the difference is in the procedure that required them.

Hi, I didn't have it either and am not sure how common it is to have it.
Hope other ladies who had drains would post...

I think overall it depends on the plastic surgeon.

With drains it is suppose to help healing, swelling and bruising. A

However, I do know girls without drains that did just fine without them of course.

I think its plastic surgeon preference.

Hi! I had drains with my first BA because plastic surgeon said it reduces change of infection since any fluid/blood can frain directly out of the body and not get stuck (maybe it could cause a hematoma...?). For my revision in 9 days (woohoo!), my new plastic surgeon is also doing drains. He doesn't usually but is with me because I have CC on one side and he has to scrape out the scar tissue and also do a pocket revision. Same reason for doing it though, so no excess fluid gets caught up and stuck in my pockets. IMO, the drains are quite uncomfortable...for me the worst part of the day of surgery and the next day, until they take them out. But it's necessary I guess....

My plastic surgeon usually doesn't use drains but my blood pressure shot up during surgery so he decided to use drains on me.

I didnt have any drains, but I did have an ON-Q pain pump which was located in my incisions and it would pump medicine on my incision site. I never felt it, but it was suppose to help with the pain and healing. It was removed the next day though. I think some plastic surgeon use drains and some dont...just depends on the plastic surgeon i think. HTH.

I only had a drain during my 2nd BA and only on the side that had a capsulectomy. I'm thankful that my surgeon used it as a precautionary measure because it was possible that my CC developed after my first surgery due to a hematoma. Hope that helps!

I had drains - and very thankful I did -- I likely would have had a hematoma without it. I have to take blood thinners - they took me off them for surgery, but put me right back on them -- it was too soon and my blood started not clotting and I was bleeding like crazy -- thank god it came out in the drains and didn't stay in me. I had them for 6 days. ;-(

Even without blood thinners I would recommend -- logically it seems to make sense

Those who had drains; do you have a hole for a scar at that site? I am asking because after my hematoma, I had a drain put in (6 mths ago), and I have a decent size hole, along with a horrible scar! I am having a revision on Dec 1, but am not going to the same doctor. Should I assume that I will have another hole after my drain comes out for CC? Or do certain Doctors take care of it after it comes out.

I know I will be getting a drain, and I so want to get rid of this horrible scar and hole!
Any comments will be helpful.
