email I wrote telling my Mum! very nervous

Hi,
I know there are a few people out there that struggle with how and what to tell their parents -- this is the email I just sent to my Mum....please please keep your fingers crossed for me that I get a good response. Very nervous.

Hi Mum,

Well I know you have had quite a few shocking 'revelations' from me in the past -- so hopefully this one isn't too dramatic. And I will just come right out and say it.....I got a boob job. I know you know I have talked about it before, but you probably didn't think I was serious -- in fact I don't even think I was serious. But, in approximately May I started thinking about it again (probably because I had just been to the beach), and really started to think -- 'heck why don't I do it' and 'if I am going to do it, why wait' -- Of course part of the decision didn't make sense -- but I really just was interested in pursuing it.

Before I tell you more -- I will tell you the only reason I didn't tell you in advance is because I knew that you would worry yourself sick. I know how much of a worrier you are, and you would have searched on the Internet and worried your way to an ulcer!

Anyway - I did heaps of research -- I found everything and anything there is to know about breast augmentation. I searched and researched for Doctors in the Denver area. I went to five different consults. All were pretty good. The reason I choose the doctor I did was because I really liked his work. (My big requirement was that they didn't look too big, and they looked natural). The guy I choose is also a cranio facial surgeon, and has done a lot of work with Operation Smile (cleft palate repair in foreign countries) -- so of course I felt an extra connection there. He had a great reputation -- and I got a great feeling about him and everyone in his office. I also inquired heavily about the increased risk if any I faced with my blood situation. There was a little increased risk (but me walking around is an increased risk) - but all of my doctors and pharmacists spoke and had a plan and no one was overly concerned. I was not the first to be doing this by a long stretch. Also -- who knows with me and kids in the future -- but this does not mean I can't breast feed. (just FYI)

I know on the surface it seems like quite a bit of money for something so vain. But I can tell you with 100% sincerity that it is already one of the best decisions of my life. You know that I had pretty good confidence in general -- but I really, really, really hated having no boobs. It affected my self confidence more than you could know -- not to mention the clothes I could wear -- I couldn't really wear dresses, swim suits, or dress shirts -- anything in my mind - unless there was a plan for how the padded bra wouldn't be too obvious! -- You probably have not seen me naked since I was 12 or younger -- and I can tell you not a whole lot has changed! With much embarrassment I am attaching a collage of before pictures -- you can't even tell I am a girl in a couple of them.

Please also know that Pete had nothing to do with this. The wheels were well in motion before we even met. He has said, and still says that he liked me just the way I was, and thought I was beautiful (but then goes on to say that he knows that is was something really important to me and he supports me). Another great positive in this whole thing was to see how great he was to me taking care of me after the surgery.

Anyway -- I didn't want to just land this on you at the airport, (you may or may not be able to tell ) so I figured an email was a good way to go -- I am anxious to hear your thoughts. Please just know I have no regrets and I am really really happy (still quite sore - but getting there). Katie knows -- but she is the only one. I think Adam has quite strong opinions about it -- and I don't want to deal with him yet.

I just wanted to reiterate that I do not have these huge big boobs now-- I still will look very fit an athletic (although can't work out for quite a while -- so probably will be big by the time I get home) -- everyone who I has seen says that they look extremely natural and fantastic -- people have been really supportive. I have also attached two photos I took over the weekend so you could see your eldest daughter has not turned into a porn star.

Hope this wasn't too much of a shock -- love always.

I think that e-mail was great. I was so nervous telling my mom, but my sister broke the ice for me since she got a boob job two years ago. My mom always said she doesn't agree with it but knows that we live in a different day and age now, and it has become the norm to have a nice set of boobs, as far as clothing styles go. But I am the baby of the family so I was just so nervous telling my family! Good luck with everything, and hope you are healing well!

That was a wonderful email! I think attaching some pictures will also put your mom at ease - anytime anyone thinks of getting boobies, they think of big big boobs - I know my mom did but once she saw them she realized i wasn't going for that look and she was put at ease. Let us know how it goes.

My mum responded -- I am very happy this is what she said. IT was just a quick email while she was at work - but I think it was perfect ;-)

No, this isn't totally a surprise and I am probably glad you had it done before telling me!! I had actually talked about it with Katie some time ago saying that I could understand where you were coming from - just didn't want to think of the actual implementation of it!! Too scary.

When did you have it done, you dark horse you!!!??

However, I am glad you are happy with it and all has turned out well. Is there a time-line on it?? Do there have to be 'touch ups'!!

Can't wait to see you. What cup size are you now!!!!

yay! the email was perfectly written. and i think u got the perfect response. when i told my mum. i kept beating around the bush and saying "ok iv made a decision, and i am very happy with my decision and its already all booked in. and ur not going to change my mind" blah blah blah. anyway she thought i was pregnant and having an abortion!!!!! so when i finally got round to saying i was getting a boob job, her mind had already completely gone down a different path and she was like "oh is that all" hehehehe.

another quick update -- I sent a picture to my mum just with a bra on -- this is what she said. I am so relived ;-) I couldn't be more happy right now.

Looks fantastic!! So natural. I am amazed!!!

That was a beautiful email! I think you said it well and respectfully with just the right amount of humor and independence. Great choice to make sure that your parent's knew before they saw you. Your mom is obviously happy that you are happy. Sounds like everything is falling into place.
