Alcohol and surgery?

I just have a few questions and I have a feelijng this depends on the person, but I have a major work event 12 days after my BL/BA, and there are supposed to be drinks and stuff involved, yada yada. I just wanted to know - a) will I even have the energy to go after a full day of work?? (it's on a weekday) and b) will I be able to drink anything? I know if I'm still on pain meds I prob shouldnt lol. But if I'm not, will drinking screw anything up? I hear it's a blood thinner or something.

And pre-surgery, how long did you avoid alcohol for? I think my doc said to avoid alcohol one week prior to surgery?? But I could be making that up because I really don't remember..

Ok, I didn't have my surgey yet, but I have been getting laser resurfacing treatments on my face and I'm not allowed to have alcohol for about a week after them. The reason is because alcohol dehydrates your body so on a cell level, you're most likely not allowing your body to do its best to heal. IMO I think that you should avoid it (you'll have other days to drink) and just let your body do its thing to its best ability. The nicer you heal on the microscopic level, the nicer the results will be!

With that said, I also think that if you had a glass of champagne or a cocktail, you should be ok....Just don't get S@#$ faced! lol

Carry a drink around to blend it, but make sure it's your only drink that day.

GL and have fun!!!!

My plastic surgeon's nurse told me that I could drink up to the night before my surgery, but that I should not "tie one on" just have one...

I think 12 days after, and if you're not on pain meds, you should be able to have a drink. I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't had my BA yet, so that's about all the advice I can give!

I didn't have alcohol for 2 weeks before, just because I didn't want to affect my healing. I didn't drink after for about a month. I had some bruising and alcohol is a blood thinner. I wanted to make sure that I didn't do anything to harm my healing. I agree with CTEPBA4KA, but if you are healing well and the pain meds have been out of your system for more than 24hrs, you should be safe.

My plastic surgeon has told me any blood thinners are a big no no. He doesn't want me to drink alcohol or eat garlic or take aspirin/motrin/ibuprofin for an entire month before surgery. I'm a bit older and just quit smoking, so I'm trying to be really careful.

I hear ya tho....I love a couple beers after work. I'm gonna have to come home and do some wii yoga and have some really nice tea in the evenings. I say just keep the partying on the down-lo....you'll be fine...good luck and congrats!!

Yea believe me I'm not a booze-hound or anything lol but my coworkers sure are! And if they see me not drinking they will ask questions and Im not telling EVERYONE I work with about the surgery, so I guess there's an underlying problem for me! haha. But I guess if I do go, I can get ONE drink and nurse it the while night - I reallyyyyy don't wanna screw with the healing process either seeing as I'm already super nervous. Thanks girls!

And garlic??? Really? That SUCKS cuz I am pretty much ADDICTED to garlic

My plastic surgeon told me not to have any alcohol bevs 1 weeks before surgery. This past weekend (my 2 week po) I had my first drinks =). Im sure you will be fine, as long as you are not taking your meds =). HTH.

Hmm I'm not sure. I was told I could have a small glass of wine the night before surgery, but that I couldn't drink for a week after. Maybe because of the pain meds?
