I can relate!!!
I am not sure what platelets are but I know something about my blood clotting test wasnt right bc my plastic surgeon put me on Vitamin K supplements for 5 days. I read the description and it says the Vitamin K is supposed to increase function of blood clot. But he hasn't said no to operating. HOpefully he doesnt bc I already paid in full!!!

Also, I have an autoimmune disease so my plastic surgeon said to get a medical clearance from my rheumotologist!

I would imagine your plastic surgeon would give you some sort of supplement to give you a higher platelet count? Thats what I am doing.

I would talk to your dr (family) first. You should make sure that there isn't any real issues going on. Low platlets can be caused by a few things and I would get that checked out before I worry about the BA. JMO

I was also on Vit K for 8 days before surgery, as well as having to see a cardiologist for clearance and extra testing due to my lab results.
Check with your plastic surgeon to make sure that there isn't another reason for the cancellation, not only do we have to be comfortable with the plastic surgeon of our choice, they have to be comfortable doing the procedure without complication.
My plastic surgeon is also a GYN Dr and Surgeon and was not alarmed at any of the irregularities in my pre-op tests.
Surgery went as scheduled without a hitch!

I can totally relate to you!!!
For almost two years I have been having the same issue.
I was eventually diagnosed with a disorder called
ITP.
It basically means that You have a low platlet count and no one knows why.
My platlet count ranges from 30,000-90,000.

A NORMAL platlet count is 150,000-400,000.
How low was your count.
What you need to do is see a hemotologist.
In order to have my daughter I was put on a steriod called prednizone which
helps lift your platlet count.

My hemotologist said that I could have the procedure as long as I was treated before hand and he would give me a clearance for the procedure.

good luck!!!

make sure you take care of that..

your platlet count is very important as it is the cell that helps clott your blood so that you can stop bleeding.
they refused to do the procedure because your platlet count is too low that if they cutt you open it would be hard to stop bleeding.

a SEVERE low platlet count is 20,000.

you can start bleeding internally at 10,000.

ITS NO JOKE...

hi ya

thank you for the replies girls...
well i should of gone into more detail in my first post, the reason i have low platelets is because my spleen is enlarged and is either entrapping them, or destroying them, not sure which one tho.

my first op was cancelled as the aneathetist wasnt happy with my platelet count which was at 98,000, they were more of a high street company so had to watch out who they took on as patients.even tho my gp did write to them saying my platelets were safe enough.

i then got refererrd to a heamotolgist and had my bloods done,i got my results through yesterday and they were even lower at 68,000!! but does anyone know if you have a cough/cold this can affect the result?? i was really ill that day, so im hoping that was down to that.my heamotlogist said that at 98,000 i wood be safe for the op, but at 68,000 she woodnt advise it at all.

so my consult with a new surgeon is on wedndsay at a private clinic, they do there ops in a normal hospital ( not just for cosmetic surgery) so thats gotta be safer?? and i go back for more heamotlgy tests in december, i really hope they are higher than 68,000 or i cant get my boobs. xx

An enlarged spleen is typically a symptom and not a disease in itself, since you are seeing a hematologist I'm sure that he is investigating the reason behind your spleen being enlarged. Your plastic surgeon and anethesiologist were very smart to hold off, platelets are the glue that initiate blood clotting and any surgery is a risk with a high potential for bleeding without an adequate platelet count.
I know that you must be really frustrated having to wait! That part sucks, but you want your body ready so that when you get your boobies you aren't bruised like a banshee so you can enjoy them!
It could be related to the fact that you said you have been feeling sick lately. There is a large range of things that can enlarge your spleen, ranging from infection to a myriad of other things. Injectable Vit K from your hematologist might be an option but these are all things that you need to go into depth with him about...
Much good luck!!! I hope that your counts rebound quickly and you join us in the land of boobs

thank you for the reply, yes im very frustrated, lol, it feels like there is one obstacle after the other just to get boobs, my enlarged spleen is due to portal hypertension, which i have medication daily to keep under control. ive been googling vitamin k, and it is also found in leafy veg, thank you to everyones advice, its been a great help xxx
