Peircings and Surgery (not just nipple but othes)

I have a few piercings like my tongue and some others...and I'm wondering what happens during surgery.. do I need to put in plastic for my peircings? how does this work?

I have my lip pierced, and they had me take it out before surgery. I put it back on the next day, because after surgery I was to sleep to even mess with it and put it back in.

ok. i haven't had a breast augmentation but i had a lump in my breast removed, they wouldn't let me have any piercings in (tongue, belly, and ears) plastic or not.

ok so the other ones, i am thinking your talking about clit ones, and for me since i never got undressed from the waist down so should not be a problem

i kept all my piercings in except for my nipples (the doc put them back in when he was done), but I think they will need to you take out your tongue because they will be putting in a breathing tube down your throat. I'm not 100% sure but that is what I think. You should ask before the surgery.

I had to take all of my piercings including my clit, tongue, nip, belly. I was in too much pain to put my clit piercing back in and one in my ear (tragus) so they grew back in and I didn't want my nipple piercing anymore. I heard the reason why they tell you take them out is because when and if they need to cotorize you for bleeding, your piercings heat up. Not sure if that is true but that is what I heard.

i have my bellybutton pierced. i had to take it out for surgery. but when i came round from the operation and i was back in my room, my mum helped me put it back in, cuz my belly tends to close up super fast!!

I have 2 tongue piercings, nose, Marilyn Monroe, both nipples, clit & 4 inner labia piercings. I have had surgeries before and was allowed to keep the 5 "private" ones in. I have never had any problems keeping them in. As GoodKarma said the metal can heat up.

I kept in my bellybotton ring. Honestly, I gotgot, until I was laying on the bed, waiting to be wheeled back that I even had it in. Luckily, mine is a plastic ring about the size of an eyebrow barbell, so they let me keep it in.
As for the tounge ring, I'm positive they'd make you remove it even if it was plastic, as I too believe it would interfear with the intubation.

this is what I was thinking..so maybe I can put in plastic.. oh I hope so.. cause I don't wanna lose my tongue or hood.. I have an industrial..and i don't care too much bout that.sept that i kinda wanna keep it..cause it was painfull to get done! ahhhh hmmmm.. i'd rather have nice tatas than any peircing in the world..so i guess it's not too big of a deal! hehe

I had to remove all my jewelry before my surgery, they said no jewelry, including body piercings, sucked but I just put them back in the next day.

when I got for a consultation I guess I'll ask about that.. my tongue piercing was a pain in the ass during healing.. it took FOREVER.. and now it's fine.. i've had since a day after my 18th birthday.. I'm 22..

I wonder if i bring it up to my surgeon.. then he will notice it or whatever.. there are plugs you can buy that are clear and plastic and small..so maybe it wouldn't get in the way.. i don't know but i guess oh well

the only thing is..no matter how long i've had this tongue ring.. it will close i think.. at the dentist once i took it out so they wouldn't give me crap for it..and it was out only an hour.. i had to push it through.. but then again..my friend had he tongue ring out for months and got it redone and the guy said barely pierced it... it just slid right through.. and she never swelled up..

I have a friend that is an OR nurse and he said that is exactly why. I took out 3 piercing, tongue navel and clit, I was able to put them all back in when I got home with no problem.

Yes, you can get burned or electrocuted if for some reason they cauterize you during surgery and you have metal in your body. I suggest taking out all piercings, no matter where they are, just to be safe. You can put in plastic or acrylic temporary ones if needed.

I believe it's mainly for cauterization purposes. I had to take out all of my piercings and couldn't even wear my wedding band

I'm hoping to have an engagement ring by then haha.. I'm gonna ask the surgeon this question though bout plastic stuff being put in instead.
