![]() | Athletics and Over/Under?
Hi, I am very athletic, 36AA, and 37 years old. I've about had it with having no chest I am recovering from ACL surgery for the next few months, and thought this might be the perfect time to get breasts too!I am scheduled for surgery on January 6, with a consultation the day before. But reading about complications and the decision on over/under placement, or subfascial, is starting to make me nervous! I just want to be a B, to look natural and proportioned, and am afraid of either interfering with my sports by damaging the pec muscle, or looking unnatural. I also read so much about complications, that I wonder if there's too much risk, or if it's the standard scare tactics. I also read about a ton of complications with ACL surgery, and so far I think it has been fine for me, so.... I'm also worried about not being able to do any weight lifting or climbing for a month, which seems like a pretty long time. Any insights or suggestions on choices? Thanks |

You'll be able to do everything just as you did before... only looking more fabulous while doing it! I'm athletic and play competitive tennis - and I was really worried about them getting in the way or the recovery process interfering with my game/ skill level. Not so! I'm back in the game, no problem! Recovery with overs seems to be a bit faster than unders. I was back to exercising and playing tennis within 5 weeks. I probably could have started back sooner, but I was being cautious, not wanting to do too much too fast. Good luck!!

Thank you! Did you consider getting unders or subfascial? Is there any reason you would not recommend overs? Seems like most athletes go for that, but then now most people seem to be getting unders, so I feel conflicted |

I had overs for 7 years and loved them. I recently had a re-do with overs again. Both surgeons recommended it for me. I'm thrilled with my results. There are pros and cons with both. I would suggest doing a search in this forum for threads on this topic (there are MANY) and it will give you an opportunity to get feedback and opinions from girls that have both overs and unders. I would also suggest going on at least 2 or 3 consults with different surgeons and ask what they recommend for you and why. Be clear on the look you want and the lifestyle you lead.

I'm an athlete, too, and so far this is what I've read: breast augmentation has approximately a 13% complication rate. Which means it has a satisfaction rate of 87%. That's considered "good" surgery-wise, but only you can decide if those numbers are right for you. Unders have more support for the implant. But the surgery is more invasive/cuts muscle from the chest wall and has a longer recovery. Overs have less muscle support and can sag if you get large implants or have 'weak' skin tissue. But they have a shorter recovery because there's no muscle cut. I have read posts from women who said unders made no difference for sports. I've also read posts from women who said their weightlifting 'was never the same' after having unders. It just depends on what you want. I've heard girls say it was 'no problem' for them to give up heavy lifting of chest muscles. For me that would be hard to give up. I have heard that for some, doing a lot of chest work/lifting after getting unders caused their implants to 'migrate' towards their armpit area. If lifting heavy isn't your thing, or you can live without doing chest work, probably won't be an issue for you. |

I had the over/under debate with myself too....after a long talk with my PS, I decided that overs (subfascial actually) would be best for me (and that was his thought too). I started with 36AA with the goal being a full C. Nothing too big, just proportional to my frame. I couldn't be happier with my choice! It has only been 19 days since my breast augmentation, and I cannot comment on sagging (had little to no extra skin to start with and my skin is otherwise taut elsewhere on my body)....but recovery has been fantastic. BTW, my PS had 2 concerns with unders for me: 1) cutting the muscle and not being the "same" afterward and 2) distortion/displacement after surgery HTH |

I'm athletic and have unders right now. At times I feel them flex and that is weird. I'm going in for overs though for a revision and super excited and nervous. I'm more worried about ripples with overs.

Well my surgeon only does unders & also I wanted unders bc I had like no tissue pre breast augmentation & supposedly it's easier to work with unders when they do the mammographs. I have no problems playing sports or anything with my unders the only weird thing was when i was 2months post op & I went swimming which was a bit hard but now it's back like it was preba I don't even notice them. The whole overs is less recovery & unders it's more harder to recovery I kinda disagree bc I heard a lot of women have had a longer recovery with overs so it all depends on how you heal & deal with pain, bc my unders was a fast recovery & pain free. remember that Every surgery has risk of complications, I had some complications but I'm still happy that I got them done. Maybe go to more consultations rather than what you are doing which you are going to the consultation the day before surgery? Have you spoken to the ps yet & things like that? Please do your research well & go to more consultations before getting anything done!!! |

I had unders and I was up and back to a pretty typical routine after 2 days. I just had to take it easy. After 2 weeks I was back to running and lifting weights. I feel with unders I have more support (like a sports bra). I'm so happy I went with them....it hasn't interferred with my work out at all!
