Post experiences with IV sedation

Hey ladies.

I am getting my implants on Jan 7 and was just wondering about everyones experience with just getting the local anesthesia and iv deep sedation? This is my PS preferred method and has been doing it since the mid 70's! I have heard great things about it such as you have a better and faster recovery time and you dont feel as sick as with general anesthesia. I have never been under anesthesia except 7 years ago when I had my wisdom teeth taken out and I believe it was gas.

Please tell me about your experience with it thanks!

My experience with IV sedation (also known as Twilight sedation) was great! One minute I was awake, then I was out of it. Next thing I remember was when I woke up and I had to ask if it was over, 'cause I didn't remember a thing. I was sleepy, and dozed off again, but the second time I woke up, I felt pretty decent and was able to get up and walk to the restroom on my own. Then got to go home. I had no nausea at all. I can't compare it to General, because I've never had that.

anyway.. what is the difference between this type of sedation and general? or is this general? I had general (i think) for my wisdom teeth out.. They all make you asleep right?

From what I understand, most people have twilight for wisdom teeth removal. That's most likely what you had.

I had twilight anesthesia for my breast augmentation about a week and a half ago. It was great! They put an i.v. in my arm, rolled me into the surgery room on the cart/bed and started the drugs. I was out before we even made it into the room. It felt like being REALLY tired. The next thing I knew, I woke up back in the first room I was in and surgery was done. I felt totally with it and could have a conversation with the nurse and my husband. Here's the weird thing; even though I remember talking to the nurse and my husband, I can't remember what I said. I can remember bits and pieces of going home but not all of it. But at the time I felt great and totally in control. The drugs just make you forget/ memory bad.

oooo sounds good... Cause I've also had my appendix out..and that was way weird.. I remember them pulling the tube out of my throat (though it didn't hurt at all but my throat did)..and for my wisdom teeth.. I just closed my eyes to a mask on my face..and an iv in my arm..and woke up and went home..

i don't like the idea of not being able to breath on my own with the gen. anesthesia...i don't want a tube down my throat so I am excited for deep sedation! It is frighting though that you are actually in pain but do not remember it.

i had twilight for my breast augmentation. it felt the same as general except i was less groggy when i woke up. i did wake up when they were stitching me up which was kinda freaky but nothing to worry bout. apparently a lot of people wake up throughout procedures but the amnesia medication causes you to forget that you even woke up. but as they had already turned IV off for me cos it was end of procedure i do remember it.

also it took a couple of thousand dollars off the price going twilight. a lot of surgeons only use general which is why they are more expensive than the ones that use twilight.

I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 14 or 15 (isn't that bad i can't remember!), and I remember being awake, then all of a sudden being awake again...felt like 2 minutes had passed! I am scared to DEATH of general and I am so happy a surgeon around here does twilight which is what I prefer. Good luck!

I had general for breast augmentation...totally knocked out. Nausua and bloating for recovery. Had local and twilight sleep IV for recent repair and it was great!! Didn't feel a thing except a little pressure but not pain, I was very, very relaxed and sort of like being in/out of a great sleep. Recovery felt much better....just took one suppository for queeziness once I got home and slept it off. Recommend if an option.

there is only a 520 dollar difference between twilight and general with my PS. However, I am going to go with the twilight because it seems as though people recover from it easier anyways. I just heard that you are still in pain--you just dont remember it because you are out and this just freaks me out! Like you can actually be crying or yelling because of the pain but dont remember because you're out...has anyone else heard of this?

My experience is from having my wisdom teeth out about 10 years ago... I'm assuming I had twilight. It was thru an IV. I remember waking up during the surgery, not being able to feel anything, then waking up in the recovery room later. I was FREEZING cold. They wheeled me out to my moms car, she drove me home, and I slept for the rest of the afternoon. I never got sick from the surgery or anything.

If I have the choice between general and twilight I think I'd pick twilight.

i've always wanted to be completely under, ever since my brother told me that during his wisdom tooth surgery he was kept awake and could feel all the jerking (it didnt hurt just the movement) and could hear them breaking his teeth out. it made my skin crawl so i was like, knock me out!

i haven't had any bad experiences whatsoever. the first time i was sedated was when i had my wisdom teeth taken out. i just had the laughing gas and next thing i remember i woke up in the car going home.

the first time i did have a weird emotional reaction. i woke up on the way home telling my mom and sister how much i loved them and was crying because i loved them so much lol it was really weird. i woke up later on the couch feeling really foolish.

for my breast augmentation my sedation was awesome. my guy numbed my hand (couldnt even feel that) before putting the iv in so totally didnt feel that and then the gas was given. the only thing from that was i was a little short of breath after the procedure because of being given gas. i was warned about this though so i expected it and it passed shortly after getting home and taking a nap. no recovery time needed at all.

so nothing so be worried about =]

For my twilight, they kept a monitor on my forehead that could tell how close you are to waking up. If you start to get close to waking up, they give you more drugs through the iv. I was so glad to hear that they did that because I didn't want to wake up in the middle or even hear what was going on.
