Travel for BA...follow up appts?

Those of you who travelled to get your breast augmentation, what did you do for the follow up appointments? I get the impression that there are usually follow ups at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months etc. Do you go back to the same surgeon (I don't think I have that much vacation time) or can you make arrangements with a local PS or your family doctor?

Such a good question! I'm looking at a PS 3 hours away, and the travel is my only hesitation.

I traveled an hour and a half, but where I live, winter traveling is sketchy at best! I went in and he told me when to pull my stitches out, which was really easy. He said I could come back to have him do it at 10 days, but I could do it myself. Then I have to go to my 6 week post op. After that I am not sure what he does, but I really don't mind traveling back at 6 weeks because he did the surgery and can tell me best how I am doing and answer all my questions that my regular family doc can not.

I travelled ridiculously far for mine (by plane) and I had my follow ups via email (4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks). I did not have complications or anything so it was ok. I dont think you can have follow ups with another PS because he did not do the work and all of them give different advice, etc.
BTW, I took a plane 10 days post op and was ok.
Good luck!

I have traveled for my breast augmentation, I have been here for me 1 week and 3 week PO, but they are taking pics of me next week since I am going back home, and they asked that I email in pics when my normal check ups would be so they can compare to the ones they took. HTH!

I traveled from the East Coast to Hawaii. I had my follow up appointments at Day 2, Day 5, Day 10, and Day 17.

On Day 2, my pain pump was refilled and my loose bandages (and pink bandeau top that I was put into right after my breast augmentation) were removed. I was put into my "recovery" bra as well (a wireless, front-opening Spanx bra). This is also when my plastic surgeon began to massage/manipulate the implants (ouchies!).

On Day 5, my drains were supposed to be removed . . . but I was draining a lot of fluid, so my plastic surgeon decided to keep them in. He also massaged my implants at this appointment. as well. All of the surgical tape was removed on this day, except for my steri-strips.

On Day 10, my drains came out, the steri-strips came off, and my plastic surgeon massaged the implants again. This was a breakthrough appointment for me, as the massages didn't hurt as much as they used to.

On Day 17, my plastic surgeon did the massages again and also taught me how to care for my scars (msg me if you want more specifics). I flew from Honolulu to Los Angeles with no complications on Day 19, then I flew from Los Angeles back to the East Coast on Day 20 (again with no complications, aside from a bit**y flight attendant, LOL).

Overall, I'm glad I had all of my appointments within the first 20 days post-op. I know it's a sensitive time period, and I was happy to know that I'd be seeing my PS a lot during that time.

Though, I do plan on seeing him by the end of the year again for a "check up." Hope this was helpful!
