Insurance

This sounds like a crazy question because of everything i've heard about insurance but has anyone ever had blue cross/blue shield pick up hospital costs? I've been checking into surgeons in michigan. I found one that I liked who is three hours away and total cost was $5560. I found one that was only an hour away in Midland who's cost was $3600 and thought that was crazy so I called them. I was told that was his cost and since I had blue cross they would not require me to pay hospital fees upfront because blue cross would "usually" pick up the cost but if they did not I would be responsible for the other $3000. I just want implants, no lift or reconstruction. Is this just insane?
Thanks

I have BC/BS and on our policy they will give you a 15% discount for cosmetic procedures. I dont think this includes the cost of the implants but it does cover Dr, Anth, and Surgical Center.

You just had yours done in August. Get a detailed invoice and file a claim. All they can do is say no. Its worth a shot.

That's the weird thing I have no cosmetic coverage but they said that doesn't matter insurance usually picks up all hospital fees minus anesthesia and doctors fees. Sounds to good to be true and so far I haven't found anyone with this experience.

Make sure you ask your insurance before you decide. It all depends on what your insurance covers but I have never seen an insurance company cover costs for an elective procedure.

I know I probably don't have to tell you this.. Try to find the best PS and not the best price. This is your body and you shouldn't skimp.

I had read it in my hubbys insurance info and just forgot about it and he was looking at BCBS online and he said, "Hey we can get 15% of your surgery back from the insurance." Im going to file a claim and I'll let everyone know what they say.

I'm interested to find out. I'm not going to file a claim b/c I know you have to pre-qualify for that stuff. So doing it after the fact will be tough.

I'd be really surprised if BCBS actually did give you 15%. I was just searching their website and couldn't find anything about it. Please let us know how it goes for you!

I have BCBS--won't pay a dime even tho the policy is written such that if my surgery is reconstructive in nature due to a surgical procedure then its covered. Well I had gastric bypass, lost 160#s and went from a 42F to a loose 36B. I would think that meets the terms but nope. Augmentation is purely thought to be not medically necessary. I have heard of lifts being paid for but its a very bad ptosis if you have had documented lots of problems with infections in the skin folds. Otherwise, its out of pocket. I have not met one PS that takes insurance. All tho, if you choose to bill they are happy to offer the documents. But its pay upfront from the 4 PS I met with.

thanks I figured it was a scam. Figured if insurance would cover a portion possibly that would be nice. Now I just need a good doc in michigan.

It may also be what policy you have. Blue cross/ blue shield has many different policies. I think the best way to find out is to call your carrier and ask about your specific policy...diane

I have BCBS and I received a discount from my PS just because I had BCBS, it didn't matter what the policy was. It saved me about $500 and I didn't know about it either until they mentioned it so I was surprised. It's worth asking about, that's for sure.
