Help! I cut my toenail too short and i'm afraid of infection before surgery!

what do I do? I totally forgot about the whole infection thing..how you shouldn't have any infections on your body before surgery.. and I've had ingrown toenails in the past..and last night I was so fed up with one of my toenails.. that i cliped it as short as possible..and now it hurts.. no infection yet..and I tried putting cotton between my skin and the nail..but I just don't know if that did the job!

any advice? I don't have health insurance so I can't run out to the docs I don't think! I kinda wanna get this taken care of anyway.. if I need to..can I just get surgery without insurance? and wait for the bill later?! ughhh this sucks.. I can't believe I didn't think of this while clipping my stupid toenail! grrrr

ha thanks ladies..i'm just stressed! My surgery is June 24th..

Unless your nail turns gangrene, I'm sure you'll be fine. A too-short toenail isn't a reason to be concerned for upcoming surgery; it'll have grown out by surgery day anyway.

ehhhhh i don't know about that! I used to get ingrown toenails all the time..and I've had to get them cauterized.. and they were woahhhh infected.. hasn't happened since highschool so I think I'm going to be fine..just a little panicked!

You should be fine. If you notice it getting red or anything I would start dumping some peroxide on it while your in the shower, or maybe neosporin before it gets infected!

I am sure you will be just fine. Unless you are prone to infections I wouldn't worry about it at all!

I have had my cauterized too. its slowly growing back. Mine got really bad...to help prevent one from happening get epsom salk and soak 20 minutes 2 times a day. this will make sure it stays soft.
